I am not hijacking this thread.... out problems are similar. I ordered two new upstream O2 sensors yesterday and will update when they have been installed to see if this corrects the problem.

I'll be waiting because this is driving me crazy. I'm going to try the same thing but I won't get to it for a few weeks. Let me know how you make out. Thanks

I replaced my front upstream o2 sensors this morning. IT WORKS! No more stumbling, hesitation, or "hitching." Note: My car was in good working order with the exception of the o2 sensors needing replacement. It is also bone stock.

I have an 02 GT vert with 100,600 miles on the odometer so the O2 sensors needing replacing anyway. When I pulled them out I noticed there was a slightly ashy-gray color on them. I do not know if this is normal or abnormal but I suspect it is normal.

I got my sensors on Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto for about $32 each. I only replaced the front, upstream sensors.

I was hesitant to buy $70 worth of sensors not knowing if it would work for sure, but I took a leap and went for it. Turns out that it WORKED! Let me know how it works out for you!

Be patient when installing the new sensors. They are easy to remove from the mid-pipe but the connector clips can be a PITA to remove and put back on. I have pretty small hands so for me it wasn't much of a problem... just be gentle with the connectors so you don't bend a pin. If you have larger hands, you may have to drop the mid pipe to gain access to the sensor connectors.

Oh yeah, and do it on a cold car..... you'll regret it if you work on hot exhaust components.

Well, I installed the new O2 sensors and got to drive the car twice before the New England snow and salt trucks parked the car until further notice. It seemed to do the trick but I can't really tell without a few days to drive it. I'll post again when I'm sure.

2003 PCED OBD SECTION 2: Diagnostic Methods
Procedure revision date: 12/19/2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Reset
Description
All OBDII scan tools support the powertrain control module (PCM) reset.

The PCM Reset allows the scan tool to command the PCM to clear all emission-related diagnostic information. When resetting the PCM, a DTC P1000 will be stored in the PCM until all the OBD II system monitors or components have been tested to satisfy a drive cycle, without any other faults occurring. For more information about a drive cycle, refer to Drive Cycles .

The following events occur when a PCM reset is performed:

Clears the number of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Clears the DTCs.
Clears the freeze frame data.
Clears diagnostic monitoring test results.
Resets status of the OBD II system monitors.
Sets DTC P1000.

Resetting Keep Alive Memory (KAM)
Resetting Keep Alive Memory will return PCM memory to its default setting. Adaptive learning contents such as idle speed, refueling event, and fuel trim are included. A PCM Reset (described above) is also part of a KAM Reset. Both can be useful in post repair retest.

After Keep Alive Memory has been reset, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveability and performance.

This function may not be supported by all scan tools. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instruction manual.

If an error message is received or the scan tool does not support this function, disconnecting the battery ground cable for a minimum of 5 minutes may be used as an alternative procedure.

Thanks but I think either you missed the point of the thread or I'm misunderstanding your post.

ahh...

So this is my issue. I'll go directly to o2 sensors. Any sources of o2 sensors to avoid?

Go with name brand like Wagner sensors.

evolucion311, if your problem has returned it could be one of the other issues mentioned in this thread. Check them out and go from there.

Been driving it for a couple months now and the issue seems to be solved with the O2 sensors. (front 2. don't bother with the back)

I understand now. A reset of the PCM is absolutely necessary after the install of the O2 sensors. Would pulling the battery cable for a few minutes work? That's what I did.

I've replaced my o2 sensors, plugs, boots, and MAF, but my issue hasn't gone away.

Anyone else have any input?

I have the same issue.
99 GT, O/R mid pipe, bbk upper plenum, bbk 75mm tb, o2's are off, new plugs, accel cop's, cleaned k&n, new fuel filter, cleaned maf, full tank of midgrade with fuel injector cleaner and still got it, no cel either. Doesnt miss at idle in park or nuetral but as soon as you put in gear at idle it misses, once driving it does if you get on it hard but only until the rpms get way up there, if you do granny take offs there is no miss. I also just noticed I have condensation coming out one exhaust pipe at the rear but not the other, anything to this?

I just got my car about 2 weeks ago, its an 04 with 30744 on it, even though the miles are low i put in this new risoline fuel system cleaner/upper cyl lube (like the lucas) and filled with mid grade, i started to notice the miss but thought maybe it was just the high concentration of the cleaner. i filled back up with regular and i still notice the slight bump when you first start her up, and it will miss every min or so until warm, however i notice it while its idle in Park and idle in gear. Being that it only has close to 31000 on it, i wouldt not suspect the plugs, or really the O2 sensors, im going to clean the MAF this weekend and check the PCV valve as well, coolant level is good and as most of you have had NO CEL, i was also thinking it might be the fuel filter because it prolly is orignal like the air filter i just changed out. how do we resolve this?

I ended up finding a Ford tech who plugged his laptop into the OBDII port and drove my car around. I had one bad coil and one weak coil (1 & 4). I replaced both of them and booya! Car runs great.

Just thought I'd add the update.
