Lower door hinge spring installation

Does anyone know how to replace the little springs on the lower door hinge while the door is on the car?

Well, there are a lot of dangerous ways, but the only really safe way is to support the door with a padded jack, remove the lower hinge, replace the spring safely with the hinge in a vise, and put the hinge back on. Little or no adjustment will be needed if you mark the position first.

Thanks 2+2 GT. I no doubt would have killed myself or relocated the spring into the next county.

What i've found that works even better is to use an engine hoist with a padded strap looped under the door. This way you can giggle and move the door a little without worrying about it falling down.

Great idea Forcefed70. I have a hydraulic jack but no engine hoist. So I will have to make the jack work.

just replaced mine:

took the door off
put spring in vise
zip-tied spring with big zip ties
droped compressed spring into hinge
cut zip ties
reinstalled door
