On Edit #3: Posted a pic of a turbo engine and didn't even know if you have one. Of course, reading on in other threads and seeing you are in the process of putting one together... When you get it in the car you will love it.

If you want to see lots of pics of an SVO going through restoration got to www.forced4.com and look under the current project section.

So how about a few minor bits of info on what the lower intake is from - even without the picture that would at least help a bit. I've got some sensors kicking around I can send you. Now I'm assuming it's for the turbo motor so just in case I'll put the pic back up.

the lower is from an 86 Merkur, yes it is a 2.3T that they will be put on. I have that oic but the sensors that I had to take off are not on it. I am going to get the digital cam out in the am and see if I can get some clean shots so I can upload them and have a better idea. I am trying to build this to an 86 SVO spec.

*lol* Kid - you nailed it on the head. Turd is the word. If you looked at all the pictures, you may have figured out that it's going to be stripped and painted. The car is being as fully restored as it can be without removing absolutely everything.

As for the lower intake, the XR is much the same as the box intake from the later SVO's. It should have two bungs, one for the ECT sensor and one for the Knock Sensor.

The Knock Sensor is located in the lower intake manifold facing the firewall.

The ECT (Engine coolant temp sensor) is located in the center of the lower intake by the injectors.

Eric - The image of the Turbo Coupe engine is a permission granted use on my personal site. I'll check with NATO to see if we can use it at forced4.

Xar, are you sure that ACT, KS, and ECT are correct. The picture that I have been using says differently. I would post the pic, but its too big. It says though that the knock sensor is the one in the middle of the intake, the ACT is on the back of the upper intake closer to the pass. side, and the other on the upper is the AC/Fan switch.

The reason I question is because I just cut the harness from my mustang ACT and it plugged right into the TC ACT (the one I am refering too).

If this is incorrect, PLEASE someone tell me. I want to make sure I wired it correctly.

I'm also not too sure about the information in this thread. Any engine's knock sensor is supposed to be in a block coolant passage, but that pic and Xaranthu says it's in the intake manifold. Also I THOUGHT my gauge sender was on the manifold. I would definitely triple check this stuff, those EFI senders all look the same.

Ok I have labeled these places with roman numerals. Number four is still in place and not broken as far as I know of.

My camera is the (edit).

1. Knock Sensor (Merkur or older SVO)
2. Knock sensor (Newer Location)
3. ACT Sensor
4. ECT Sensor
5. Could be the Fan Switch Sensor / Coolant Sensor

location

OK #1 and #2 are locations for the knock sensor. #1 is where the older XR4TI were mounted and early svo (dont quote me) but I was told this was not used after a while because they tended to break off there durring engine instilation. There is also a rumor that if mounted here it will pick up flase knock. (NOT SURE IF TRUE)
#5 is a coolant sensor

Ok I took a few minutes today to review the senders with a wiring diagram in hand... ASSuming that the chilton's manual is correct (I know it has an error or two), the picture that points out all the locations is correct. Sorry for the confusion.

The last mystery sender (number 5, should have only 1 wire) on the N/A 2.3 is the switch to turn on the electric fan I think. Similar to or identical to the temp gauge sender on those engines.

So is this diagram incorrect where the ACT is? This is where I plugged my in my ACT from my mustang. Maybe it just fits in both of the sensors on the back of the intake?

And with this pic I am assuming (oh wait, i mean ASSuming) that the KS is the one that is in the middle of the lower intake (inbetween the injectors). Is that not correct?

After looking at NATO's website though i would assume that the top picture is correct since they use the same one.
