Just wondering, with the filter, should I change the oil with 5 or 6 QTs, my friend does 6 but isn't that to much?

6 is the manual specification. Most people say 6.5 will make the dipstick appear as full, but I'd rather be a tiny bit too low than overfull.

Congrats on overfilling your oil and losing HP and maybe ruining your engine by foaming the oil. This is a known issue with the 4.6 but do as you please.............

6qts with filter read your manual it doesn't lie but the oil pan change caused the false reading of half way between max/min.

If Im not mistaken I read somewhere to use 6.4 Qts. I think it was in the Chilton manual for the 96 4.6s with manual tranny. Is 99+ any different, will it hurt to only use 6 instead of buying a 7th quart and not using it all?
