What is the purpose of the screen that comes stock in front of the Mass Air Flow Sensor? AND, is there an advantage to removing it with a . . . dare I say it here . . . MAC CAI (modded, no bend)?
I don't know what large particles could get through the filter and need to be screenedSR 97 GT said:I don't know exactly what it does although I would assume it just keeps large particles from getting sucked through the intake into the plenum, ect. When I installed my K&N intake the directions told me not to re-use the screen so I guess it doesn't do much.I doubt there would be any advantage to removing it.
I seem to remember this same explaination too. Unfortunately, it's very restrictive and even if it does straighten out the air, it would again encounture turbulance when it goes thru the stock rubber accordian tube with the big dimple in it, near the TB. (I just got a good look at this myself today while digging through a box of old OEM parts - JonJon, was it you who had pointed out the big dimple in this thing? You are so right, it's major!)sjrtx said:someone said before that it straightens out air and reduces turbulance. makes sense to me.
Can you remove it without destroying it? And can you put it back if, for whatever reason, you have idle problems or something freaky? If the answer to these is Yes, then I'd say go for it!damacman said:. . . should it stay or should it go . . . ?
i took it out when I installed my C&L MAF, no problems.damacman said:. . . should it stay or should it go . . . ?
