Manual Brakes?

what does everyone know about these?

i want to ditch my power steering/hydroboost/stock steering rack...i dont need that ****.

please help with a kit, isntructions, etc to make this possible.

Is there a reason why you want to do away with all of that?

'cause power steering is a waste...it's strictly a track car...more accessories=less hp

I take it you drive your car 1/4 mile at a time??

I think summitracing has stuff to ditch power accessories.

ill drive it on the street, but only to local meets to squash all the ricers =)

Get cruising, push in the clutch, then cut off the engine. Try steering and braking, then come back and tell us if you still want manual brakes.

it's all for the cause...i've owned plenty of older cars with manual steering...**** doesnt phase me...now back to my question...

Sorry, didn't realize you were so hardcore. Why don't you start by gutting the interior, taking out the air bags, seat belts etc. Weight reduction would futher your cause, and you'd still be able to stop when a minivan full of kids pulls out in front of you on your way to squash those ricers on the way to your meet.

Im curious about this too, I just created a thread as well about steering racks, whats so bad about wanting to have a tighter steering setup??

The name on the post is "manual Brakes". If you can find a way to go to a manual rack and still retain power assisted brakes, then it probably isn't problem.

manual brakes work fine...i've read many posts about people with them and they are very happy with them...just the whole hydro-boost design sucks for racing, and is just another accessory to run off your motor (power steering pump).


i dont need power steering, or hydroboosted brakes.

rather use a manual cylinder and run all new lines

im assuming you just drag race. cause hydroboost is used by almost every road racer now. fox bodies are even being converted to hydroboost. i do believe flaming river sells manual racks, and you can get a manual master cylinder from almost anyone.

The older cars/trucks were OK with manual steering because they were made for that, and had different "gear ratio's" Turning a power assisted car without the power assist would be quite difficult. I would want to switch out the steering box tho. How much does a brake power booster wiegh? Pretty much same thing for brakes, you want a set up thats meant to not have power. I know every HP and pound counts but If I was going that hardcore, I would ditch the A/C, run underdrive pullies, and have no interior except a drivers seat. But hey rock on if your building a 9-10 second car.

If anything, convert to Vacuum assisted brakes. It will be a hell of a lot easier than trying to convert to manual brakes.

the reason ford used hydroboost in the modular stangs is due to the size of the motor. they couldnt get a vacuum booster in there.

is it possible to run a manual rack while retaining the hydroboosted brakes?

no, because the hydroboost requires a power steering pump, which requires the belt to turn it therefore losing the reason to go to a manual rack.

Like posted above. You would most likly need to go to a system meant for a manual set up, not simply disconnecting the power motor. Turning our wheels without power boost is rediculously difficult, as they are not designed to be run with out boost. Same with the breaks. They arnt meant/capable of working well without power assist.
J/W..how much HP will this free up?
