if i were to go to the juck-yard and get a manual rack out of a 79-81 mustang would it bolt straight up to my 92 Gt, and would i need a steering shaft made for a manual rack? Is there any other car I can get a manual rack off of? and if the rack were out of the junk-yard would it need to be rebuilt?

I think at places like autozone, pep-boys, ect... you can buy them re-maned for around $100.

What's the difference in the Manual steering shaft and the power steering one if they both can be used? Also I read somewhere that there's a kit need to make this conversion work. (from flaming river)

Flaming river makes a steering shaft wich is the one I assume you're talking about. It is designed to give added header clearance (no large rag joint). And they also make a tie rod end kit wich is not really needed.

I looked it up and there is an adapter that is needed in order to make a manual steering rack conversion. the adapter is from flaming river and it alows you to use your stock powersteering shaft with the manual rack. price $70 from summit.

The manual rack has a smaller diameter input shaft compared to the power. I cannot remember if it is shorter or longer. I think it may be the same. The adapters with the splines that go on the bottom of the rag joint have matching splines and will fit only the rack they are made for. I believe you could just change that piece on your power rag joint. Flaming river sells that part, I think, as someone mentioned.

I installed a used Mustang manual rack, that I got with tie rod ends and the intermediate shaft. It bolted in perfectly, tie rod ends and all. It did take me a couple years to find it, and if I was going to do it again, I would prefer all new Flaming river stuff.
