MASS air conversion instructions from http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html FREE
A9L (5 Speed) computer from junkyard $100-$150
A9P (Auto or in a pinch, 5 Speed) computer from junkyard $100-$150
70MM MAF from 94-95 Mustang GT - $40-$70
MASS Air wiring harness kit $30-$85

The whole thing is probably less than $300 using junkyard parts.

A9L computers are 5 speed only
A9P computers are automatic, but will work with a 5 speed.

Conversion Harness kits & parts

All the Mass Air computers from 89-93 are interchangeable with a few exceptions. You can also use an auto computer in a manual. The odd duck is the 93 Cobra computer, labled X3Z which is interally calibrated for 24 lb injectors. Try and avoid it if you can.

A9L - 89-93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
A3M - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
A3M1 - 93 5.0L Mustang 5-spd
X3Z - 93 5.0L Cobra 5-spd
A9P - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto
A9S - 88-93 5.0L Mustang California
C3W - 89-93 5.0L Mustang Auto

Use the compters and mass air meters I posted and you will be fine. These are tried & tested options. Do anything else and it may or may not work.

The stock mass air meter from 89-93 Mustang 5.0 will work, but it is only 55 MM.

Do you have cruise control, or does yours work? If not, you won't have to replace the whole harness.

http://www.fordsunlimited.com/tech/maf.htm
and
http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00077.html

Now, if you do have cruise, it will do away with the cruise.

As for the auto vs. stick computers, I noticed no real difference switching to an auto computer vs. the stick computer I had, if any, it is a very small gain.

I did the swap in my '73, and I wired my A9L this way with no problems so far, and I did it last year. I of course had no cruise, so this was a cheap alternative, that and I already got a FULL engine harness at the junkyard for $8 for a speed density LSC, and there were no mass air cars at the junkyard.

So you can grab the MAF connector with the meter.

ok that route doesnt look so tuff but lets say i do have cruise and i want to keep it will the 89 harness and computer keep the cruise? reason im asking this is because i bought this car with no motor or trans and the engine harness is gone!
if i can buy the 89 harness and computer and drop them in then along with the mass air thats how i want to do it.

thanks for your guys time

Oh, you don't have a harness to start with...well, if you can find a mass air harness, get it. Since you will have to put in a harness in it either way.

Copied From bbunt302

Just for reference, here's a list of all the compatible years:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air.
90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors)
91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood)

Computers from 89-92 are all the same. Look for the A9L sticker on the back cover for a 5 speed that matches your requirements. Example: E9ZF 12A650 AA" with the A9L code.
