Master cylinder going to cause gray hairs

Hey Guys,

I have decided to go with the manual front disk/rear drum set up for now. There was not any way to get that Master Power Booster and Master Cyl in the car. It simply would not fit. Now I need a dual bowl master for manual Disk/Drum brakes. Is it the 74 Granada master? What about a 67 mustang? My problem is that I am only finding masters for power disk/drum applications. Will those work if I use my orig brake rod? I know that there are others with these problems. For now, I will continue to search the posts. THanks for any help!

Check out MC's for Mavericks wich are dual bowl and available without power assist. I believe I used on from a 75' for my non power disk/drum 65'. I researched mine on the Advance Auto Parts site.

Just Like "dennis112" said, I used a manual brake, disc up front and drums in the rear, dual bowl master cylinder from a 74 Maverick. You should be able to order one from napa or similar store, thats where I got mine. Hang on to your old mc piston pushrod I had to use it. The new one is too short I believe.

Correct--you will probably need the original MC piston pushrod in order to do the conversion.

Bendix 11862, Raybestos MC36440, Cardone 10-1614 are the proper manual disc/drum MCs. Have fun!

Just as a side note. you WILL BE HAPPY with a manual disc/drum set up. the only thing better is all round discs. and even then it's not the same awesomeness as going from 4 drunms to front discs. you will stop better than most new performance cars and get a workout ( slight ) doing it . only time i wished i ever had a power assit was after a 3 hour stint at the local gym. and pushing that brake was hard i had to use 2 feet. but that's all.

Which booster/mc were you using ? I know there are problems with geting some MC/boosters to fit, but you should be able to make it work fairly easily with the right parts. I got manual brakes on my 67 and I'm switching to a vaccume booster after I put my rear disc on if I still feel like the pedal effort is too hard but then again I'm using the SVO MC. Try a booster from an 87-97 V8 Mustang. They are skinnier and have a modern car brake assist feel.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all of your replies! That will definitely get me on the road. As for the booster, I purchased a full front disk brake kit, power booster, and dual bowl master cyl from Master Power Brakes. The front disks went on like a champ. The booster and master will physically fit, but when the bolts are tightened the cap for the master is completely touching the fender brace and you can't remove the cap to put brake fluid in. I would also have to dent the shock tower a little. Master power has been very helpful and they are going to take back the booster and master if I can't make it work. The only thing that I can see is trimming the bottom of the fender brace and then possibly griniding the cap of the master cyl flat. It has some decorative ribs on it that MP said would not be a problem if I ground off. I think I am going with the manual brakes for now and if my wife doesn't like it (since it is her car) I will probably get a 2.3 fox booster and the parts from mustangsteve to adapt it in. I converted to power front disks on my '67 and almost wish I'd stayed w/ manual (disks). The pedal is way too soft for my liking and I'm constantly chirping the tires...and looking like I just got my license all over again.
