i was on the freeway, coming home yesterday from the gf's house and i bumped into an eclipse(mid 90s, the last model)...not sure if it was a gst, gsx, or whatever the turbo model is, but it was real slow!! i wasnt trying to race, so i was cruising in 5th, but once i saw him go i went didint need to downshift i kept a car lenght on him on 5th!!! downshifted to 4th and i left him behind .....maybe he had one of those gadgets that makes your car sound like it has a turbo how fast are they supposed to be??? i was quite suprised of the outcome...but a win is a win

The GST and GSX are low 15 high 14 second cars. They're pretty heavy though. Weigh in at around 3800lbs.

They could see 13s if they free up the exhaust and up the boost. With the right driver of course.

I had one pull up next to me on the freeway one day too. He was like 3 lanes away and as soon as he saw me he switch all 3 lanes at once and ended up right next to me. I saw him coming so as soon as he got next to me and I heard the turbo spool up and punched it. I have a AODE so it downshifted from 4th to 3rd. I had a car length from the start and ended up about 3 or 4 lengths in front of him by the time I hit 120. I was really surprised by the outcome. I mean i expected to win but I didnt expect to kill him. When I heard the turbo I thought he meant business. Guess not.

Eclipses are not highway cars. I've driven the GSX before and its a dog after second gear.

If you were able to pull on him in overdrive and really kill him by just downshifting into 4th, it probably wasn't a turbo. Our cars are faster, but not to that big of an extent....especially at highway speeds.

did the same thing

Came up on the rear of a late model GST on the freeway... had the fart pipe with stickers. wasn't thinkin of doin anything but as i am passing him he matches and then i hear his turbo spool up. My buddy in the car looks at me and smiles as he straped in, downshifted into 3rd (5spd 94 5.0) and killed him. I thought he would give me some competition but apparently not. As i shut it down, he did the normal rice flyby at 120 plus, all the while my budy is laughin so hard. I thought they were supposed to be pretty quick.

oh nice one there stangnet on keeping the orders straight.

a distant friend of mine has an eclipse turbo convertable. two wheel drive i believe. i remember them revving it in the drive way just to hear the blow off valve go. anyways, my impression after goin for a ride was "fast enough to be fun to drive, faster than run of the mill cars/sedans, but it wasnt ALL that fast.

how do you figure?, its turbo, turbos cars are mostly top end cars, they have no torque down low like our cars because its only a 4 banger. when i drive my friends cars they pull like hell in every gear over 2000k rpm an there cars are mostly stock except for raised boost. its all top end power, to me they are deffnatly highway cars. my friends are all about these cars and they dont take much to make fast. but still, ide rather have a 6 banger mustang than a fast dsm.
