I'm thinking about buying a used 302 from someone and the engine they want to sell is on a stand torn apart. The crank was pulled turned and the block freshened up but no bearings were bought for some reason. I want to put the motor together the correct way and make sure i have all the right size bearings so how to i accomplish this? How do i measure so i can buy bearings?

Micrometer or calipers. Be sure you can measure to .000", not just .00". Thousands of an inch.

You can find the stock sizes in most any decent service manual.

A lot of times they will stamp the crank as 10/10 if it was turned. 010" atleast I do.

So am i measuring the circumference of the crank where the bearing would go on? And if so i am assuming that's going to give me some sort of number like 2.231 bla bla bla right? so would that be the size of the bearings i need for my mains? Ive been searching for answers but i keep coming across info on how to plastigage but not how to determine what bearings i need on a bare block/crank.

Correct...stock will be around 2.24

I use and recommend King Bearings.
