Ok Im officially bored with my car, it drives great and all that ****..

SO I would like to in the future put some boost on my 5.0.. (just always have I dont know why either) And i would like to in the mean time screw around with this and swap my car to an edis (distributorless) ignition for better drivability and all that crap.

So how hard is it to do and whats all required?

millhouse where u is homes?

You rang?

If it’s not your daily driver and you feel the urge to be able to tweak every part of your tune yourself….it may just be for you. Let me say too that if you are not up for soldering components on a board….it’s probably not for you either. IMHO, to get everything out of the squirt you need to be able to do all of the mods yourself. Even if you buy a complete, pre-assembled unit…it does not include options such as electric fan control, 2-step, boost control etc. Those are all cheap mod kits you purchase separately and add to the prototype area on the board. There are complete instructions/schematics on how to wire them up….but they won’t come built in on the pre-assembled kits. Building the squirt from scratch is actually quite easy….as everything comes pre-assembled and packaged to a “T”. There are complete instructions on the basic assembly, as well as almost every ignition option possible.

Once you have everything setup, tuning is the easiest part of the equation….especially if you have someone to drive it for you while you’re on the laptop tweaking the VE table. Getting a drivable tune should take little time….but it’s all of the small stuff that adds up that seems to frustrate some. You need to tweak every aspect of the tune from scratch. Figure on spending a weekend getting the squirt built and another getting your basic tune down. Getting everything honed to perfection will take a while longer…especially considering you need a wide variety of temps to tune completely. You may find that if you tune everything spot on in the summer time, the first cold morning you will need to jump on the laptop and tweak your afterstart and warmup enrichment values to get it to start and idle properly until the car is up to normal operating temperature.

Also, there is a base table floating around on turbomustangs that is an interpolated version of a stock speed density table into megasquirt. It works very well…although it should be tweaked to your combo with the appropriate retard added in boosted areas. There is also an excellent write-up from whitedeveil666 here…. How to Megasquirt MY Mustang! - Corral Forums on how to setup edis with megasquirt and a 36-1 wheel. I myself will be converting over to a wasted spark setup using said 36-1 wheel….but will be using ls2 truck coils instead, as the EDIS setups do not allow you to use a 2-step. The provide such a strong spark in stock form however, that there is no need for an aftermarket ignition box for a hot spark needed with turbo setups.
