Melbourne area stangs

I see this bright yellow bug on Merritt Island a lot. Actually looks really good. Aftermarket, yet subtle wing, nice rims, nice exhaust, not covered ins stickers...it's a pretty cool looking car. I don't think it's new enough to be a turbo, though...course, nothing stopping him from adding one. :D

I think I saw that bug at Taco Bell a few times.

yeah but the one i saw had a 400lb old old lady getting in it ... i was amazed at the fact that she fit in the car ... not to mention that the car was already lowered ... i didn't get a chance to see if she had any clearance when she got in it ...

Alright, so y'all, tell me about SVOs. I never spend much time in the 2.3 and Turbo forum, so I'm curious about them. How reliable are they? How easy to modify and what kind of power could I expect and for what cost? How easy are they to maintain? Stuff like that. Starting to seriously look at my options. Thanks y'all.

Prolly her son's car or something, and since her car was in the shop, she had to swallow her pride and drive some ugly ricer Bug. :D

im not much help, so wait for mfpmax to chime in! but i can tell you this, if you treat it right it will make your GT look like mine speed wise! just start spending time over in the 2.3 forum and asking alot of questions! they will tell you just about everything you'll want to know!

First and easiest mod for an SVO.

Replace the stock intercooler.
Find a T-Bird intercooler(87-88) and swap it out...saw one at Fun Ford Weekend for less than $40.

Get a boost valve...this replaces the BCS(Boost Control Solenoid), which allows you to spin that T3 Turbo up past 18 PSI :D

Port the exhaust manifold, cheapest mod if you've got the tools.

Swap turbos. If you can get a T3/T4 Hybrid for cheap, you can easily put out 300HP.

While at Fun Ford Weekend a guy had a 79 Hatchback with a Turbo 2.3 motor...it was running 10s.

Yeah, I know. Stock for stock they're almost as fast. Which is something that scares me, since it's spreading the power of 8 cylinders over 4...doesn't seem to good for the reliablility of the engine.

Surprisingly Ford engineered it pretty well. As long as you keep regular maintence up to par you can get plenty out of the motor. It when you neglect things like regular oil changes that screws things up...such as the turbos.

check out http://www.turboford.org Loads of information there.

How much would all this run me, how easy is it to find, and could I do it (haha, yeah, right...) or would I need help or just put it in the shop?

The first two are easy...if you get a pre-built boost valve...you should be able to follow the directions provided.

The intercooler swap is hella easy...its right there in your face. Find one on Ebay, the SVO Classifieds, or TurboFord.org's For Sale section.
