Sounds like a lot of hassle and work just to end up with something cobbed together that may or may not work correctly. I would save my pennies and get something that would make life easier, not harder. What about your tranny? You gonna just throw something in there that won't hold up under a turbo or do it right and build up a nice automatic? What about a fuel system and engine managment? If you think an I/C is expensive wait until you start figuring that stuff out!

I found out a long, long time ago that there is no cheap and easy way to go fast safely and reliably. Either pony up with the bucks up front or deal with the car being broken all the time. The right way to do it is start with a plan on where you want to end up, then take the right steps to get there. Do your cost estimates up front, then double it, cuz that is what it will run.

You run a tremec 3550 right? Pretty strange that you are able to break one without putting out a lot of power. Is jay going to do the rebuild for you?

Good drag settings, but for handling and good street manners I'd look at -1.5* camber (I like -2* but I'm a real aggressive street driver), +6.0* to +6.5* caster, and about 1/16" toe-in. That'd be a good handling setup while still not killing the tires on the street.

Actually you want as much caster as you can get on a drag car and near zero camber. I ran -1.5 camber for the last 2 years and was getting a bit of cupping and uneven wear on the inside edge, so I dropped back to -1 this time. I guess I don't drive it hard enough to need more negative camber. I drive like an old man I guess.

I really ought to redo it anyway since last week I swapped out my rear springs for some with less drop. The rear ride height change may have adversely changed my settings. I know it will decrease my caster some. Looks like I have plenty of room for more caster and less camber if I want to change it.

Ewww, my car is dirty! Guess I will take it to the car wash today.

i agree with the no cheap way to go fast.:worship:

but as to the tranny, i haven't quite decided. Right now the car has a T-5 in it (what just broke 3rd), but i also have a 3550 that needs a rebuild + two gears (what broke before). I don't run the car anymore due to having the weakling T-5 in there, so I was planning on getting the T-5 fixed (will be alot cheaper than fixing the tremec) just so the car will be drivable again. Get the turbo's/intercooler in and running, then rebuild and put the 3550 back in.

I've thought over the automatic, and I know it would be alot more reliable...but i just like manuals. Depending on how insane i become, and if i go any farther with the car (wont be for awhile) then I might switch over to an auto then, but for now im going to stick with a stick. plus, i can rebuild a manual...id be lost as hell trying to rebuild an auto.

so your saying shell out the mega bucks for a good intercooler? everything ive seen for a good 3-core air/air intercooler has been at the cheapest $900...and that sounds pretty insane to me. i dont know, maybe im just cheap.

no. when i bought the car it already had a 3550 in it, which (from what ive seen now) the previous owner beat on alot. instead of getting the new parts to fix the 3550 (im broke and cheap, not a good combo) i just bought a used T-5 and rebuilt that.

im not sure whos going to rebuild it yet (me or lamotta). i dont know if i want to mess with it again...but i dunno.

but no if i was breaking 3550 gears with my car, someone please beat me with a driveshaft. im not THAT bad of a driver.

I think you wasted some majorly expensive hard parts in yours if 3rd went out. Sounds like you will need a countergear, 3rd speed and main drive gear for it. Those will run about $350 - $400 depending on year, not including a rebuild kit.

If you get in a bind, I have a T-5 here I was going to reassemble with a bunch of new hard parts and all new bearings. I can make you a reasonable deal on it if you want to do the assembly or I can put it together for you for about another $100.

I also have a pretty fresh 93 Cobra T-5 built to Z-spec that's in the LX now. I was going to pull it and put in something stronger when I drop in the 347.
