Compared to what though? I feel that "accurate" is a poor descriptor only because they are both calculating hp, only in different ways. I tend to prefer mustang dyno's as they give a more real world approximation of the power you're putting down. If a dynojet is more "accurate," then why not add 15-20% for drivetrain loss and claim an even bigger number?

For the most part, unless you're using it for tuning, I feel dyno numbers are just for bragging rights anyways. Regardless of the type, they really aren't accurate. Glenn really hit it on the head; take it to the strip as that's going to give you the best indication of what the car is capable of.

I plan on going to the Saturday practice and the auto-x. I just ordered my new tires from Tire Rack for the Cobra R wheels last night. Hopefully they will arrive in time for me to mount them and give them a break-in before Saturday. I'm really anxious to see how much better the lead sled will drive with good rubber on it.

I think I'm going to miss this one guys. I might be there but I doubt it.

What tires did you end up getting Glenn?

Well, since street driving wasn't going to be a concern now that I have the stock wheels and BFG 245-45's for the day to day driving I went ahead and ordered the Kumho V700 in a 275-40 size. Dave (david97gt46) drives his to and from the autocrosses with his and claims it isn't a problem. This weekend will be my last go in Novice so I might as well get a decent tire for ESP.

Hope you can make it to the event this weekend even if you don't enter.

Paging Eric Kebbel

Eric, are you still looking for some good UCA's? If so I can bring those Dbl. Adj. UPR's and urethane bushings to the auto-x this weekend if you want to check them out. I can even email you some pics I took when I was considering putting them on eBay.

Glenn, don't you have to run in Novice Race with those V700s? That might be a bad idea if a lot of cars show up and you're trying for first place. I know I got clobbered on Saturday, but easily won on Sunday since there was only one other girl in the class.

Weather.com says thunderstorms on Saturday. Obviously it's too early to tell, but I could go for running in some light rain. It sucks standing around in it all day, but driving on the wet is fun.

True, I will have to run Novice Race with the V700's, but what choices do I have? I can use my stock rubber BFG's and shred them, not a good idea. I can use the worn out Bridgestones and slip and slide all over the course like I did last month, again, not a good idea. I could buy a full set of street rubber and know I will have to compete against race rubber in ESP next month. I don't think so.

Nah, I will run the V700's and let the chips fall where they may. Besides, I already have so many motorcycle trophies I have to pack them in boxes and put them in the attic. I will see how I do in Novice Race no matter if there is 2 competitors or 10, it just doesn't matter. If I get a trophy, fine, if I don't that's fine too. The fun will be in the competition anyway and checking my times against the guys in ESP.

BTW, what type of tires did you get for your car?

True on all counts! Just making sure you knew.

I went with the Kumho MX 225/50R16s for the front. They ride quiet, did great in the rain coming home on Sunday. Can't say much about their performance - I haven't pushed them much and I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

One humorous thing I was thinking about: if my old tires were worn bald on the inside and still had 2/32" on the rest, would that have given me any more negative camber and toe out? On a related note, Glenn, next time your students need something to do, I'd be happy to come by for an alignment! I'd like to fix whatever caused that inner tire wear. Call the cell at 321-693-4524 or home 321-729-6657 if you need a guinea pig.

February autocross course designs

What does everyone think about the course designs (Saturday, Sunday)?

Saturday's looks pretty straightforward. After the slalom, it looks like there is enough room to get the car settled in a straight line before taking the sharp left turn. The first SCCA event I went to had a sharp left turn like that, but the chicane that preceded it was much closer and I did a 180 after coming into it unsettled. The chicane at the end of the last straight could be interesting: getting the car slowed down rapidly and making 2 or 3 quick turns.

Sunday's course looks more frustrating. At the last autocross, they had that long straight with the slight left at the end before a hard right. I was unable to figure out the best time to brake and turn. I guess I'll get another chance since they're doing something similar after the straight near the skidpad. I think I'll put a post up on Corner-Carvers for ideas on taking turns like that with stock Fox brakes.

Tim, if you wore the tires on the inside edges you either had a toe-out condition or too much negative camber for street driving. I won't be teaching a class in alignment until sometime next school year. You might try dropping by and talking to Ron again, he may need another alignment for his class, I just don't know. You would have to be willing to have his class do a complete underbody inspection before they will agree to do the alignment. The whole idea is to provide a practical learning experience for the students in an instructor supervised setting.

FWIW I will be adjusting my camber to -2.5 or so just for the weekend, then resetting it to about -.5 for street duty. I will see if I can do just a camber setting without readjusting my toe by simply marking and resetting the camber plates.

I only looked at Sunday's (since it'll be the only day i'm there) and it looks more like it was designed for a stang. Lot's o straight aways.

Is anyone having trouble signing on to aol instant messenger?
I think that the server is down, but it could just be on my end. Anyone having the same problem?

I was also thinking of entering to do the Auto-X.
For those of you that have seen my car, do you think it
would pass inspection? I really liked riding with TJ and Dan,
and I'd like to give it a shot, even tho my car looks like ass.

Balljoint pictures

Glenn (or anyone else who knows what a Fox-body balljoint looks like), here are some pictures of my 2 balljoints. You can't really see it, but on the rear of both boots, there is some rubber cracking. Nothing has broken yet, so I just want to know if the collapsing you can see in the pictures is normal.
