Yeah, I SOOOOOOOOOOO wanna be there...I wanna see that guy with the RX-7 if he brings it(which I think I read he'll be bringing the Mustang instead). My friend with the Chevette may come though. If he does, ya'll need to take care of him and not beat him up TOO much for nothing getting a Mustang like I've been telling him to.

I'm reposting this question from the AutoX thread, cause I figure when it's time for me to get one of these, this thread will hopefully still be around, and that one will be long gone. So here's the question. Saving up money to buy a car specifically for AutoXing and Drag Racing. Needs to be quick, agile, lightweight, easy to maintain and mod, and under $6K.

SVO Mustang <---First choice, but rare.
Porsche 944
1st/2nd Gen 300ZX
"" 240SX
"" RX-7
"" Supra
Eagle Talon

Okay, so what do you guys think? Good list? Add or subract anything? Also, weren't the 300ZXs and stuff called Datson originally? Thanks y'all.

You have to decide what you want to do most. AutoX and 1/4 mile are completely different animals w/ very different suspensions.

If you would like to take my RX-7 for a spin at the Palm Bay AutoX next weekend you are more that welcome to. You can feel how it handles and how much power it has.

I will only speak of what I know here and I know RX-7's

The TurboII model is very capable of seeing 400 hp and low 12 second 1/4 miles - With a little money and work you can get it into the 11's and lower - how much do you want to spend?

In AutoX trim I will have my boost turned down and my h.p. at around 230. With my boost turned up I would be in the 330 hp plus NOS and I am in the 400 hp range and thats a bit much for short AutoX runs but fun for 1/4 mile runs. I have not run it on the track yet but I am expecting mid to high 12's.

1/4 mile is not a major issue w/ me though AutoX and Club Racing is what I am most interested in so my car is set up for that.

If you shop around enough you can pick up a Turbo RX-7 for $2k to $4k nicer ones will cost more.

Do you want a project car or a turnkey??
A project car can be had for less that $1k but will need a few thousand to be set up right.

Hope this helps. I'll see you in Palm Bay on the 7th.
