What all is different about the 4.6 compared to the mustang non pi motors? Where is the 20hp difference?

Cougars and Tbirds have different intakes, metal I believe but they didn't flow well and weren't worth using on Mustangs. IIRC everything else was the same.

Depends on the year for the intakes. The 96+ ones use the same intakes as the Mustangs. Literally same part number.

So when comparing a 94 cougar 4.6 to a 98 mustang 4.6 gt? Would I be able to still do a pi swap on the cougar for a nice sleeper?

The Cougar and T-bird are harder to perform the actual PI swap on because of the shock towers and the design of the K-member.

Do your homework. The oil pan and front timing cover is much more difficult to remove on the Cougar/Thunderbird.

The motor itself is removed differently.

+1 as the other have said. For the 1996-1997 MY, the motor is the same as in the Mustang. That includes the intake.

The PCM and calibration is very different. Hence the reason the two cars drive different.

TCCoA | TCCoA is a good forum to get info on these cars. Many of the members have lots of $$$ invested in making those cars go fast.
