A well driven light heads cam and intake car will get you into the 11s.

Crate motors have gotten a bad rep in the past. I would have a motor built by someone local. This way, you can be involved in the process and if there are any problems, they can be dealt with much easier.

The last part of that statement I will have to disagree with...be careful either way.

First you need plenty of gear 3.73's are min IMO, plan on 6500rpm if not a touch more on a 302/306. Plan on some pretty large parts porportionatly speaking.

Weight is also an issue - sort of. Remove all insulation material under the carpets, switch to tubular k-member and A-arms, alum. heads (for power + weight savings), maybe fiberglass hood, remove AC stuff...

Traction is very important, get some connecting frames (les body flex), better control arms, softer springs (like 4 banger springs) for weight transfer, put the battery in the trunk/hatch...

I run low 12's most of the time and on good days high 11's with a factory 93 short block y303 heads not ported, e303 cam, gt40 intake,70tb,76mass air, cold air, 1" spacer, electric waterpump,410 gears and a C-4 with a trans brake. The car made 284rwhp. The trick is the weight car and driver 2820. The car is not striped as far as apperance but it has most commoditys removed.(speakers, radio, front/rear bumpers,A/C,heaterbox,powersteering ect.) Still has carpet seats and interior. So its stripped but really doesn't look it.

I agree with a few of the previous posts. Yes, the engine is a big part of it because it creates the power. However that motor has to push a car down the track so weight is an important issue. Also, traction is a major issue. The car has to be able to hook. Probally one of the biggest flaws of capable vehicles, the driver. Put a 14 second driver behind the wheel of a 12 second car, it won't be able to break into the 13's.

i went to a dyno day when i still had my SRT and was actually interested in it. THere was a guy there with a 350 chevy crate motor hoping to make 350 and only came out with 225 whp and like 250 ft/lbs. In my SRT i dynoed 236 whp and 250 lb/ft of torque. Not highly modded. I wouldnt do a crate engine, i woudl def. get something custom.
