Midpipe Question...

Is it worth it to put an X-pipe on my car?

It still has the stock Bullitt catback which supposedly flows ever so slightly better than the regular GT mufflers but would the midpipe be worth it?

Also, how would it affect the sound...wouldn't want the car sounding like a hyped up weedwacker on crack

It's your call. I replaced my stock Mach 1 midpipe and catback with aftermarket setups and haven't regretted it once. Replacing the midpipe alone would no doubt alter your exhaust note, and high-flow cats (if your get a catted X-pipe) would definately be less restrictive than your stock cats.

If you do it, keep the stocker, as you have a rare sub-specie of Stang.

You never know when it might become a valuable piece of machinery to someone as bone stock.

True, but the stock midpipe on a 2001 Bullitt is identical to that on any 2001 GT, just as the stock midpipe on my 2003 Mach 1 was identical to those used on all 2003 GT's. The catbacks, with respect to the mufflers and tips, are unique however.

No, that is not what I was saying. I know the mids are the same.
I was just hinting to not lose track of the stock pieces of a unique Mustang model. Who knows if they'll be worth anything or not? I do know that many Classic owners today wish they could find OEM parts to make their original and hate to see history repeat itself.

Is it worth it. IMO Yes. Plus side is with stock cat(less) back it is a lil louder but not enough that most would notice.

I was doing that, but quickly started to run out of storage space. So my stock midpipe was sold and all that remains of my stock catback is the muffs.....anybody wanna buy some rare OEM muffs specially tuned to give their ride a unique Mach-ish exhaust note? Someone bought the chrome rolled tips already. The one thing I sold that I may regret down the road is the stock airbox assembly. It was definately unique, and I actually sold it in pieces....one buyer got the airbox, another got the intake tube and (milk jug) air silencer, and a third even got the plastic MAF housing. It reminded me of picking over a turkey carcass after Thansgiving. I am keeping the stock shifter ball, and at least one set of OEM tail light housings.

I definitely plan on keeping all the stock stuff. If I go with an O/R X, I'll still need to "restore" the car once a year if you know what I mean

I like the way the car sounds stock (much more aggressive than my 02 GT) but still want to add a little more power here and there. I just didn't want to change out the stock H with an aftermarket peice and cause the exhaust to sound like crapola

Another advantage to the aftermarket midpipe is added mileage. After I replaced mine with a high-flow catted Bassani X, i got 15 - 20 more miles per tank. Plus i have had plenty of compliments on the sound of the exhaust.

if you swap out the 4 cat stock mid pipe for a X pipe with 2 high flow cats and a cat back exhaust, can you still pass emisison inspections?

Also, when you go from the stock 4 cats to a high flow 2 cats x pipe, do you throw any codes or have any probs with 02 sensors or need mil elims? Do just one set of cats have the 02 sensors on the stockers?

They have a pair of O2 sensor bungs ahead of the cats and a pair after them, just like the stock H-pipe. No codes, no MIL eliminators.

I have had a Magnaflow catted X on my car for 70,000 miles no codes yet, but did have to get it rewelded about 10,000 miles ago due to occasional dragging on the ground. Bad roads plus lowering springs even mild ones can have this effect, the magnaflow X hangs a little lower than the Stock H..

Qu!ck: i noticed you wanted to keep the "bullit sound" intake but make it louder or more agressive...

get a prochamber H, it flows higher than a normal H and according to fellow bullitt owners, it keeps the stock sound at idle and just makes your presence more known when u gas it.

ive ordered mine and can't wait.

the stock mufflers flow better than the stock H pipe. replacing the H pipe will make a difference.

What's the difference between all the x-pipes out there. I was on rpmoutlet.com and they have bassani, magnaflow, SLP, and Pypes. Is each one going to sound differently? Some of them talk about being a true x crossover, is that important? BTW I have a Borla Cat back so i am looking for something that is going to sound awesome with it on the outside, but not be annoyingly drony on the inside.
