Hey guys,

I'm in need of a mig welder and I wanted to get some suggestions from you all that weld. This is going to be used for sheet metal up to 1/4" thick and for some exhaust piping. Lincoln is the brand I would prefer to stay with but I'm open to suggestions. Which model would you buy? Thanks

im not a professional welder but i have done my fair share... most welders even the cheap ones will do atleast 3/16" steel if not 1/4" but the question is how much do u want to spend...
i would recommend that you invest in a welding unit that uses gas.. its much easier to see the weld pool than with a iinexpensive "gasless" welder which uses a flux cored wire. it also benefits from being able to switch the gas as to what your welding... diff metals take a diff gas...."gasless" welders generally only do mild steel...due to the wire... also gasless welders leave a lot of slag on the project and u will always have to clean the welds up after your done. I would recommend a gas welder with a good adjustment of power settings and feed settings... the lincon "power Mig 140C" model looks to be a winner in my book... little on the pricey side of things its capable of gas or gasless welding... my $.02

Thanks for the information Tag and Will. I'm leaning towards the Hobart 140 that Tag recommended. Its in my price range and I think it will get me started.
