Marlborough, MA, 3/2, 30,000 square foot lot cut into the woods, good neighborhood, OK school system, 1800 sq ft. house + 400 sq ft. partially finished basement, two car garage, 600 sq ft. deck (20 x 30 and its awesome) built in 1964, brand new stainless and granite kitchen and new bathrooms, $336,000 and our broker said we got a steal. Bought in January 2009.

It's all relative.

But in my town, a lot of the yuppie-type people spend A LOT of money on houses that were built when garages weren't a necessity. There are some large expensive houses in my town that have carports.

I lucked out, my house was built in '63 and my 2-car garage was built to house friggin Galaxies or Imapalas from those days. I've had my parent's 2009 extended cab long bed F-150 backed in next to another car in my garage with plenty of room to close the garage door (before I moved my tools in though).
My parents have a 5/3 with a 2-car which was built in '98, and my dad can't park his Grand Marquis in the garage, cause it sticks out.

Sounds like property values up there are similar to Central Fl.
My mom has family in Cali, and I don't understand how people there justify buying 3/2's there when you could get a small mansion for the same price here.

ha ha yeah man when I look at a house I'm like "yeah yeah ok eh it's nice can we see the garage now that's what's important" I tell my family I could care less how the house is I can live in the garage that's all I care about

well, we submitted a letter of intent yesterday. the seller's realtor wants us to be available between 10 and 10:30 tomorrow morning to answer any questions the seller may have.

the beach house in in bethany beach delaware. it's a prefab/modular house that cost under $100K for put on the lot. it may sound like i'm rolling in money from all this, but we are actually just barely getting by.

my wife's mother bought the lot at the beach 40 years ago for $5000 but had never built on it. then about 15 years ago, i had to refinance, so we added $100K to the amount to build the house. they gave us the property 5 years ago. so now we are "house poor" ... we have all this property but can barely pay our bills. too bad it wasn't beach front, or we'd be sitting on a million dollars now.

if we end up getting this house, my mortgage should go down about $100K and my monthly payments should be about $500 less, which should help alot.

at least we have no credit card debt.

my house is now on the market. the first open house was today. lots of people went through and everyone liked it. 2 people came back for a 2nd look. most people said it will probably sell quickly.

update: the owners of the house we want accepted our offer! it is contingent on our being able to sell our house. now all we need to do is find a buyer for our house. cross your fingers for us.

we have a counter offer on the table, we should know tomorrow if our house has sold.

where can i get those rubberized garage floor tiles at a good price? that garage is going to be righteous!

thats freakin sweat Chris!

as far as the tiles, i would rather you epoxy paint it with U Coat it. that stuff holds up against everything and if something drips, paper towel it and its gone.

my problem with that stuff is that liquid gets anywhere. the cracks between will let stuff through. how hard is it to get them apart then to clean under it? All those pictures show prestine garages that looks like you aren't even allowed to set your beer down without a coaster. they don't look like work areas.

I've actually be looking around at houses myself. Theres one right next door to work that has a nice bit of property around it, 2 car garage, and some other shady "garage" space as well. They were asking like $225 but even the Realtor I was using said it's way too much. I heard the other day the people are really hurting for money so put in an offer and see what happens. The house is older and needs work, like I said there is some shady stuff built onto the back of the garage which eventually would get ripped out, and there's an old mobile home that I would get rid of (actually a second one as well which is part of the shady garage space). Plus the place was only appraised for like 75 something. It's gonna take some money to make it 100% so I was thinking offering like 100 and see what happens. Worst they can do is tell me no. Dumb to let it sit there and pay on it when nobody is living in it and you don't have money to pay for your own bills let alone an empty house
