MOD Suggestions

I have a 94 GT 5.0 bone stock and i was wondering if anybody can give me some pointers on what kinds of mods i should do to it. Like what exhaust, headers, intake, maybe a new ignition set. I just need some help deciding what to put on it. Also i was wondering how i can make my car start up in one crank? i don't know if anybody knows what i mean. i have seen people in old muscle cars do that, they get in put the key in and in one crank, just vroom!! anyway i would appreciate any advice on this. thanks

I dont know about the one crank part, my car turns over a couple times before firing. As far as exhaust, I bought some BBK shorty headers as they are cheap yet decently constructed (nice thick flange), and I just installed a pypes off road x-pipe. It was also cheap and bolted up great. One thing about the x-pipe though is that it didnt have the tube for the smog pump, but I deleted smog so it was perfect for me. Mufflers are definitely a personal opinion type of thing as everyone likes a different sound. First thing I would do though is get some 3.73 gears in your rear end if you have a manual tranny, or hop up to 4.10's if you have an auto. Thats the biggest bang for buck that I have done so far. If you get a cold air intake, you might as well get a cheap one off ebay, as there really isnt a big difference between the name brand or cheap ones. I sound like a cheap ass for sure, but for the starter mods you dont need to go all out. Save that extra money for when it comes time for a good H/C/I combo. Ignition wont help on a stock engine, so dont bother. Unless you could use some new spark plugs and wires, those never hurt.

Start out with subframe connectors and gears.

I know those don't sound as fancy as headers, intake, or a big TB,
but they are a foundation to stiffen up and use what you have to it's fullest.

After stiffening the unibody and gearing the car properly, the next best thing
to do is exhaust. Headers, ORP (if you can), and free flowing mufflers.

Oh, and I know what you mean on the cranking...
This 94 is my first Mustang and HO 5.0, and it sounds like it is normal for them to
turn over several times before starting. It really bothers me. My F150 has a roller
5.0 (non-HO), and it cranks almost instantly. I have had 2 LTx and 1 LSx Z28s, and
they all started instantly if you let the fuel pump cycle pressure before turning the key.

Even the 72 Maverick I traded for this 94 started so fast that you often couldn't even tell
the starter motor turned. And it's a carburated 302... Injection is supposed to start even
better. Fwiw, EFI does start better most of the time, but this 94 is different for some reason.

Well since it's Tax Season im probably gonna go out and do the 4.10's on it and the exhaust. yea it's a 94 auto but sometimes i think it would have been better if it was manual... anyway thanks for the suggestions, anymore would be great.

I see the small post count so Welcome

Old school cars had different tech than these cars of today and it kinda
sorta has to do with why the later models don't fire up as quick as the
older cars did.

About those pointers on modding your Stang

It is so important for you to know what is possible :Word:
therefore
You can have some kind of way to relate to what is gonna happen

If your Stang is your only car for daily transportation

You are not gonna want a h/c/i combo that ....
won't idle at less than 1K rpm
bucks and surges at low speeds
won't get but around 12 mpg around town
and all the other stuff that goes with a big duration cammed combo

Yes ... at WOT ... such a combo is so sweet
but
A bit over the top for a daily driver

See where I'm going here

Most peeps here are very knowedgeable and willing to help

I'll give an answer focused on power increase only

If your dealing with a dd you can go with a typical NA GT40 parts based
combo and expect 240 to 280 rwhp which is not all that radical yet
the increase in power will offer a lot of fun

Such a combo will use more gas around town but will still yield over 20
mpg when talking highway use.

Such a combo will be more efficient with a tune.

Such a combo will offer the most fun around town with a steeper rear
end ratio of 3.55 to 3.73 and the rpm's on the highway are within reason.

You could skip the cam and just go for some Cobra 1.72 rr's

That would mean ......
less parts to buy and get installed

less issues with the pcm not playing nice with the hot rod parts
therefore
a tune could be avoided

Maybe you are more into Show than Go

Budget is always important as modding a Stang is expensive :Word:

anyway ... if you can be more specific with your goals or q's .......

You will get more specific answers

The best thing you can do for an auto car is Shift Kit, Trans cooler, Stall Converter, and gears and it will feel like a toatly different car.

If you get gears installed you will want to correct your speedo and odometer. Just speaking from experience, I put in 3.73's and bought the aftermarket speedo gear that goes into the tail shaft of the transmission. It worked great for over a year, but when I swapped trannies a month ago, I pulled the gear to swap it over and it was chewed to bits... I dont think the teeth were meshing at all! A better fix was the speed cal from Dallas Mustang. It is wired in and much more reliable IMO. You will have to add another $100 to your budget though...

Ok first of all, what does H/C/I/ combo mean??? i have seen that everywhere but dont know what it means. also u guys are gonna have to bring me up to speed with all this StangNet lingo cuz i am New at this. And about the specific mods i meant like 1) Exhaust 2) Intake 3) Headers 4) Rear End Gears 5) Maybe get it cammed?? 6) bigger TB?? stuff like that. About the intake i was wondering what is the baddest intake i can get? a Steeda? or does it really matter? If it doesn't make a difference, ok but i guess i will settle for a BBK. Also i have heard of guys that get GT40 Heads. how does that work? This car is basically my daily but i can use my mom's car in the meantime if the mod calls for it to be worked on a long time. For now i just want to do the basic stuff and maybe in the long run i will decide if i want to go all out or just hop in a new pony.

H/I/C Means ... Heads, Cam and Intake its often more beneficial to do all at once since they all work in conjunction w/ each other.

Whats your reason for wanting to mod it? How much power would you like to make?

When you are asking about an intake, do you mean a cold air intake (chrome tubing), or the actual intake on the car (big metal thing on top of the engine with 5.0 HO plate on it)? With the CAI, brand doesnt matter much. With the latter, brand and specifics make a big difference.

My reason for wanting to mod it is basically to have a nice looking car as well as being fast and also since i live in miami there are LOTS of little punks in their little toy civics and other pos cars that try me all the time and i want to be able to smoke them and then some. But like i said for now i just want maybe like around 300 rwhp? not so much just enough If i'm not mistaken my car comes from the factory with 215HP? Also, and i'm sorry for getting off topic here for a bit, is there any way to find out how many miles my car has? When i bought it, i noticed the odometer stopped at 52,099 and has not moved since then. I have replaced the water pump, radiator, hoses, thermostat, dizzy cap & rotor, spark plug cables, ignition coil, fuel filter, temperature sensor and maybe 1 or 2 other things i forgot. other than that i have only put a cheap ass intake from ebay

If your shooting for 300RWHP then your going to need to do the Heads, cam and Intake (upper lower intake) Free up the exhaust w/ some actual headers, mid pipe and cat back system. Throw in a bigger Throttle Body and some Under Drive pulleys and that should get you in the 285-295 range and a tune to top it all off.

Over all that amount of mods will cost in the ball park of $3,000 but will be more then enough to keep away the buzzing run of the mill rice.

Heads either AFR, Trick Flow Or Edelbrock. Personally Id go w/ AFR 165's. Pully's are pretty standard BBK makes a good set and are at a good price

It may help if we had any clue how much money you want to spend. Like someone else said you really outta get gears, shift kit, and stall converter. Those things alone are going to make a night and day difference from your current state.
