Has anyone modified their distributor to only drive the oil pump?

I plan on doing a EDIS conversion and won't be needing the distributor for anything other than running the oil pump.

Was thinking about just cutting the top of the dist off as per the pic below. Then maybe put a rubber cap over the top.

Any ideas?

Why not just buy an Explorer distributor stub(I'm guessing on what this thing's called) for this? Shouldn't be hard to locate one, most who use these engines don't use it anyway.

This is what I'm using:

(I was just testing something there, it's not yet in use)

The part itself is:

It's a "Ford Explorer Cam Shaft Position Sensor"

Ford Explorers didn't come with the 351W engine.

Gonzo: Thanks for the pic. Looks pretty much like what I'm thinking of doing. Hard to tell what's going on at the top there.. block off plate welded on?

It's a block off plate welded on to the shaft I think.

i lopped off the top then cut the shaft so it sits 3/4 inch below the cut, then i ground a taper onto a shaft slightly bigger than the bushing and pounded it in, i believe i use the shaft from a long 1/2 bolt.
