Budget - that is the burning question...Also ability/aptitude.

Tires - a must.
MSD or Mallory Ignition.
Upgrade suspension: KYB GR2's you can get off ebay for under $200 delivered.
Springs - also ebay finds - range from $150 to $250.
GT front and rear sway bars - should be $40 or less from the junkyard.
Cold Air Intake - you can make your own. PVC piping is your friend. Check the tech articles for the plans. I used a different method, I used a 18" piece of 3" PVC, and reused all of the stock hardware. I cut out the bottom of the air box, and rotated it 90 degrees to the large air hole in the fender wall. It works.

Ranger header - you can pick them up for $20-40 off ebay. 5/8 flare caps for capping off the egr fittings.

5.0 passenger downpipe, muffler, and tail pipe.PITA job. Stock 2 1/4" piping is good. Plus they have the 02 sensor bung. You will need to modify it by elongating the mating flange holes to match up to the ranger header & relocating the main hanger. Also you will have to extend the 02 sensor leads by about 12".You can re-use the stock muffler hanger by unbolting it and reversing it to the other mounting point. The tailpipe you will have to use a generic hanger. No biggie unless you are really into cosmetics. You can usually pick this stuff up at junkers for less than $70.

5.0 GT Master Cylinder, spindles and rotors - bolt right in. $90 or less at a junkers.

Lincoln LSC 73mm calipers - $50 at junkers, bolt on.

That stuff you could do.

Others: Ford Motorsports A233 cam or Ranger cam if you are more adventurous..

All this will not net you gobs of power - I'd say about 105hp (125 with cam) if lucky. It's alot better than 88hp though, and you still maintain your fuel efficency.

Forget about the 5.0 header nonsense, just run a Y-pipe after your stock cats (or replace stock cats) with two mufflers of your choice and LX tailpipes. I did mine a couple years ago for $185, including parts and labor.

5.0 master cylinder is the same as the 4-cyl., no need to change.

73mm calipers will only bolt up to V8 spindles, so make sure you do that first.

You could go that route with the exhaust, but then why bother if you are staying normally asipirated? The 5.0 downpipe bolts up perfectly, weighs less than a dual muffler set up. Minor welding of hangers is the only real mod. The exhaust path is much straighter, plus it costs much less (since I am talking about doing things on a shoestring budget) and it is 2 1/4" from the header back. What you appear to be advocating is 2" from the header to cats to Y pipe. Kind of defeats the purpose of freer flowing exhaust.

You are right about the 5.0 M/C. I should have meant the SVO unit. I did this mod and it was worth every knuckle scraping minute doing it.

Plus here's a linkie for the originating poster regarding brake upgrades.

get the rear outt of a 87\88 TC, the autos have 3.73 and the sticks have 3.55, both are disk brakes,8.8 and lim slip, a good quiock up grade

if ya cant find the 87/88TC the other TC's had 3.45 and a lim slip in a 7.5 some with 9 in drums others with10 in drums

for a cheap headder just hit the pick and pull and check the rangers for a headder

make some sort of cold air intake

that should get ya quicker, for not alsot of cash

I do have a Hi-compression,Port & polished, Big Valve head that would work nice on a N.A. engine, That I am willing to get rid of

You can find the headers on ebay for reasonable cost.
