I dont own a 2010-2011 car but if they are the same as the 05-09 cars for 3 grand you can get a 100 shot of nitrous for roughly 1,700 kit, installed and tuned, and put the rest towards suspension and tires. Thats one option, the second would be to get a cold air intake with a custom tuner. Also add some headers, X or H pipe and some mufflers.

Cams and exhaust should put you there.

Don't do anything that will destroy your warranty---or require a computer tweaking.

Best modifications would be a Cold Air Intake and a tune and a set of 4.10 gears. Brenspeed and Bamachips seem to be popular tuners.

If you want 20 - 50 HP, a good cold air intake, CMRC plug removal and a good tune will get you there. That will cost you around $1,000 maybe even with shipping and the car will be as reliable as factory same MPG's too.

So would a K&N replacement filter not be an improvement?

An improvement for somebody that wishes to remain stock. A proper CAI and a tune will net a greater amount of power.

I don't know and still don't, but am curious myself. Since there were no replies so far, I googled to see what I could find. It looks like a very involved process that includes removing the top of the engine, including the intake manifold. Google "mustang cmrc plug". Down near the bottom of the first page should be one titled "cmcv delete plate install". It has a detailed pictorial of an install. It says cmrc, cmvc, and other acronyms are the same thing.
