Fastback only, on the interior rear sail panel with the louvers. The panel assembly has chromed pot metal vent grilles sort of swaged to them. Has anyone ever successfully removed and reinstalled these things for painting? Or do we just mask and paint around hoping for the best.

I used steel wool to bring some life back into them then painted them with lo-gloss black Krylon spray. I used steel wool to polish the tops to get a chrome over black look. Not perfect by any means, it looks a lot better than before.

That's what I'm hoping to do to the grilles themselves but what I'm after is removing them if possible to paint the fiberglass.

Cdaniel:
i ran one JL 12W0 in a 1.5cuft box i built from their website's specs. 600 watts is loud, but makes the car ratle when you first put it in. dynamat is a waste of $ though carpet pading works the same. also, spray some undercoating in the doors and trunk. i faced the sub towards the back of the trunk. when installing the box, i removed the trunk latch on the body then dropped it in. i also stuffed some padding above the wheel wells. im takin the panels out this weekend as i will try to use elmers glue on the backside of the panel to stop the rattling

i wouldnt remove the crome from the fiberglass. its a pain to put back together and youll be sorry you took em out
