Going to the dyno tomorrow, so any help on this is much appreciated!!

The dipstick that came with my Moroso 20511 oil pan reads a little over filled with 5 quarts - But this is suposed to be a 7 quart pan...

When I fill it with seven quarts, the car smells like oil BAD when I get into it....Not sure if it's coming out the PCV, or the oil cap breather but one way or another, oil IS getting out.

Anyone experienced this, and if so, what was the solution?

(and yes, I do pull both drain plugs when changing the oil)

For background, the car is a 93 with a 331 and a Vortech S Trim.

Hmm..not sure about the part number, but I've got a 7-qt Moroso oil pan on my car, and the dipstick (although cheesy) shows correctly. Does yours have the compression fitting where the dipstick installs into the pan?

Thanks for the quick response.

It does have a compression fitting, with a bit of silicone around it just for good measure.

Does the full seven quarts fit in yours with no issues?

We have a 7qt pan on my wifes car. and I had problems with the dip stick also not reading real good it has a compression fitting on it. I just put 7qts of oil in it and cut a mark in the stick where it is full. no oil smell and the pan fit well. kind of a pan in the ass to work around due to its size with the stock K-frame.

Thanks for the tip uedlose. I will score the dipstick tonight and quit worrying about that part of the problem.

I did find the source of the "oil smell" that I talked about earlier in this thread. At the dyno today, we were able have our eyes on the motor under load and the mysterious oil leak was coming from the compression fitting where the dip tube goes into the pan. As soon as the car cools down I'm going to re-install it and hopefully take care of it once and for all.

Thank you for the help!!

sure, also you got to love boosted cars and oil leaks did you put a one way valve at the PVC? and are you letting crankcase pressure off some where? if not it will leak oil all over soon. as far as that goes it will leak some, some where all the time LOL its boosted. My new motor leaks oil at the head gasket. not alot its just more like a seep.

Mine I had to put 7 qts into the engine, then move the dipstick up and down in the compression fitting to get the correct level. But, it works fine now, and no oil smell.
