Motive Gears?

I was thinking of getting Motive Performance Plus 4.10 Gears with the Master bearing Kit and haveing Ford install them. What do you guys think? How much is a typical install?

Personally, I'd stick with FRPP. Though some have had no issues, others have reported whining. With either brand, professional installation is th emost important thing.

Cost? At a ford dealer? OMG probally $500-700

Find a shop/installer you trust first before doing anything. A lot of shops have a package (gears and install) and guarantee with Ford gears. Having said that I wanted 3:90s and spoke with the shop before hand and Motives is the brand they recommended and would install (compared to Pro 5.0). They couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't whine, which it doesn't, but if I went with FRPP gears through them, it would have been. Had FRPP made 3:90s, I would have went with them.

My bearing's went and ruined my stock rear end, so I went to a ford dealership and worked a deal with one of the mechanics since they have the tools and the know how. I provided the FRPP 3.73's, a traction-lok rebuild kit, bearings, fluid etc. He rebuilt the traction-lok and did the install for $300. Ford wanted $700 for labor alone!

i have motive 3.90's and they dont whine at all.
if they had FRPP gears in 3.90 i would have used them.

I believe ford shops wont install anything other than what they warranty.

ford shops will also anally rape you on the install price!

I will probaly be going with Motive's.

They have two different types of gear. The one people may associate problems with their name is the lower performance level one. They are dirt ass cheap but not as strong. I have only seem them for sale at one or two places, the rest are the much stronger "racing" sets.

I believe you have it backwards. The race set is stronger because they normally have a different heat treating and sometime use a different metal. But they will not last as long in a DD as street gears. In a race only car it is a different story.

I got FRPP's, bearing kit, oil and install for $500 total at a local performance shop.

Hmm, never thought of it like that. The "race" ones im talking about are the ones that people like Summit and American Muscle are selling at just a slightly lower price than FRPP gears. The "regular" Motives are around $125 for 4.10's.

Hopefully they are quality though, im pretty set on 3.90's.

Gear whin has nothing to do with the brand of gear, its who installs them. people say motives whin because they are a little harder to install and the installer dosnt do it right
