mounting an aftermarket amplifier in 93 mustang gt

I am going to be installing an alpine sv-60 amp in my 93 mustang gt hatchback.

I was wondering where other people have mounted theirs?
I removed the passengers seat and took out the stock amp. The alpine amp that I have seems like it will fit nice under there. Will this be an area with enough air flow? also can it be mounted directly to the floor under the seat on top of the carpet?

I was waiting to see what others posted about this. I too want to put a sub in my hatch, probably in the spare tire well, and I don't want the amp to be seen either. I really think the amp would overheat in this location. It's right above the exhaust and the seat wouldn't allow it to breath. I was hoping someone would pipe up and say they have done it with success.

Does anyone have a good tip on where to mount the amp and it be hidden?

Under the seat should be fine. I haven't done it myself, but I have seen lots of my friends do it and they have never had any problems. Not in Mustangs, but not any different. If it were me, I would run a piece of plywood inbetween the amp and the carpet, that way you don't have the carpet acting as an insulator and keeping heat in. Shouldn't have any problems running it then. Post some pictures when you are done so other people can see for the future

I called Alpine and they said no problem to mount the amp under the seat, it will end up having 3 or 4 inches of clearance from the amp to the seat.

Alpine said I can mount it directly to the carpet,I may mount it to a piece of plywod like you guys suggested or a piece of plexiglass. That may interfere with the spring for the seat adjustment if I raise it up more than a quarter inch.

I have been taking some pictures and will post them when I wrap it up, I got everything hooked up tonight and just have to zip tie wires and make it all look neat tomorrow!

By the way, Alpine makes a grreat amp, cant go much louder than 20 on the volume unless I want to blow out my ears!

Ya you don't have to mount it to the plywood, just something you can do for extra insurance so it don't overheat

The main problems with floor mounting amplifiers are foot traffic and garbage and moisture from a dirty/wet carpet. That said, there is very limited room in the 5.0, so alternate places are not always feasible.

Don't worry about the bottom of the amp, it is not designed to mainly dissipate heat this way. What you should be concerned about is air space around the FINS, or exhaust fan if it has one. This is what cools the amp.

You worry about airflow through the radiator, not around the top or bottom, right? Same principle.

Personally, I mounted my amp and crossovers directly on the rear seats, inbetween them and the piece that flips down when you lay the seats flat.. I have a very small amp though, and most will not fit back there.

So i finished the Alpine Amp instalation under the passenger seat and everything worked great.

Pulled the seat, removed the stock amp (which I had bypassed anyway) and installed the new Alpine amp. Just make sure before you mount the amp to put the seat in to make sure all the springs and levers on the seat clear it and also slide it back and fourth to make sure it clears in all seat positions. I had to move mine a little to one side so everything cleared properly.

I ran all the wires under the center console. The speaker wires were easy because the harness was already under the passenger seat.

Everything went pretty smooth, took me about 6 hours start to finish because it was my first time installing an amp.As you can see from the pictures there was plenty of space between the amp and bottom of the seat for airflow. Alpine tech support said no problem to mount it under the seat and directly to the carpet.

Looks good man! I apologize...I miss read your initial post. I thought you were wanting to mount it under rear seat. I guess I miss read it because that is where I had thought about putting mine, but I ruled it out prior to your post. I actually had an amp under the driver's seat of my Ranger...some of the springs scratched the top of the amp but I never had any problems out of it. Again, good job!
