MPH quote

I was quoted these as the prices for what I wanted


Engine is $3480
RR is $1400
cams $599
springs $195
Longblock build $650
gaskets $423
oil pan $289
arp head studs $195
billet gears $315
oil pump $85
shop supplies $100
flywheel $329
shipping $24

I told them that I wanted to forge the internals, go with the custom ground turbo cams and the mongoose tt kit installed and tuned by them.

Do I need an oil pan, arp studs, billit gears, an oil pump, and a flywheel.. are those necessary things?


I dont want to spend a whole lot more than I need to, of course it would be great if I could afford to go 100% and upgrade every single thing.. but does this seem about right?


I'm not saying they are giving me a bunch of bull, I'm just trying to find some knowledge to why I need those at the same time.

As for the the ARP, oil pan, billet gears, oil pump, yes you do need them. On a high HP 4.6 the oil pan will suck dry and leaves you with a very expensive paper weight. The ARP only adds peace of mind, why cheap out.

Oil pump is cheap, gears and pan are pricey but you play you pay. Do it right once.
 
Yeah, I agree.


Gotta pay for the things, just never consider those as part of the deal.

It's going to put me at right around 17k for all of that, turbo kit tuned and installed included.



I paid 14 for the car, so its sorta like having a 500+ hp 31k car.

Not bad for a GT. :shrug:

Yeah, when I think about it I get a catch in my tummy.. I wonder if its really all that, and if I'll get what I want from it. It's a tough decision.

I'm still very young and have alot of time to achieve these kinda of goals.. why not do it while I can enjoy it though, right?



Why would I need a fly wheel in this kind of setup.. or putting it in better words.. why does a flywheel seem so necessary.. it seems to me a clutch would play a bigger role with that sort of HP potential.

Yes, you need all of that. MPH is not going to build you a car and warranty an engine if you try to cut corners. :nono:

thats a very lofty goal you have. Save yourself alot of grief and sell your GT and go find an 03/04 Cobra. You'll get a much better platform and then you can finance the Cobra. Its gonna come out to be about the same price and the cobra will hold more value.
 
MPH is dedicated to doing things RIGHT...if your a cheapscate, he wont build your motor because his name is on it and he wants it right...so it has to be built about like he thinks it should....Thats probably why they have never lost an engine in one of the cars that they have tuned or built.

So my car is sitting at MPH waiting to drop in a ton of goodies. And it's cheaper...and faster...than an 03/04 Cobra.

And it's just a GT. :D

Yeah if I wanted a "fast car" I'd guy buy a trans am or something.. haha.


I want a fast, streetable, mustang GT.


I agree I'll need a tranny and a rear end and clutch and all that good stuff, but i cant afford it all initally, so I'm def. going to need a very niiiice and mellow tune, which I'm sure I'd still be completely happy with in the mean time.


Does anyone know how "safe" they can tune it? Can Tim, bring it down to 425-450 or so, with the cams and tt kit?




Also, I'm not saying MPH is trying to bull**** me or anything like that, just learning still. I didn't see the necessity in the flywheel, and never considered the oil would have been sucked so easily.:hail2:

not quite sure what you mean by having another 4V? like they are everywhere and we should be sick of them by now? You may have had more money invested in your car then he does. Actually besides a catback he doesn't have anything. So taking his 14k GT and selling/tradeing it in for a blown Cobra will save him money! He's going to need to drop @ 20k to get what he wants and be reliable. He can get a cobra for under 30k. Add a few boltons to that and have his 450rwhp and be done with it. And his car won't be SITTING anywhere waiting for mods. Just doesn't make sense to waste that much money on a fairly stock GT when the better car can be had for less money in the long run and way less stress and downtime.

Meaning, another 4v. You see an 03/04 Cobra and you EXPECT it to be fast. And when you park it next to another 03/04 Cobra it doesn't seem to be anything special.

And provided he doesn't go to the track and race with DR's, he can have his 450 for cheaper than $20k. Yes, my car IS sitting right now, but like a highly anticipated Xmas gift, it will be worth the wait.

Thats basically the idea, I don't want a cobra. I want a GT and I want it to be quick. I dont know how sure I am that "a few bolt ons" can put a cobra at 450hp. I'd have to spend at least 25-28k on a cobra, that I know has been driven hard, and then just have a cobra that I'd have to put at least a few grand to get it to 450.. then i'll have your averaged bolted on cobra.. people will expect big things.. but when I pull up to the group of cobra's and Trans Am's, they will think, yea, a gt, oh well. If I wanted a fast mustang, yes a cobra is the way to go.. I want MY gt fast.. not a cobra.
