im a newbie here but in my opinion i think that an msd set up right now is a waste of money, you would probably do just fine with a pentronix ignition to upgrade your points ignition if you dont already have one. invest that money somewhere else

although petronix is cheap, why buy it twice. MSD makes a great setup. I would look into a billet distributor and a coil to begin with. Later on you can add a 6A or 6AL box when you really start modding.

I have a full MSD setup on my 70. It's great... helped when i bought the car it didn't have a distributor so that made my choice easy. Pertronics is a really good setup especially for the price. Depending on how far you want to go, you might not notice a performance difference really.

mallory is ok... i always had fun when the weather seemed to change and the ignition module in the damn thing would die and the car wouldnt start. I loved spending $80 at a time to get it back running. Wish I would have just bought a MSD setup before wasting $160 on ignition modules. Maybe they have changed but I know a couple people runnin their unilite models and the things randomly die.

I use the MSD 8579 along with the 6al. A nice reliable combo. The rev limiter is also a great insurance item.

I had a Unilite in a slightly warmed up A-code years ago, used it for a DD for about 6 years without a single glitch. Went with MSD on the new somewhat more warm 351W build since the Mallory wouldn't fit. I sold the Mallory here in the classifieds with cap and wires.
