Another update thought...I did get a phone call this morning from Jane at Ford customer service after filing a complaint via Fords website. I explained everything and she was apologetic. She insured that if the specialty tools didn't show up she would get them there ASAP. Well they didn't show up again today. So I got a call from the dealer and they are now replacing the whole trans.
I should have got Ford involved weeks ago...

That should have happened a couple of weeks ago....Im glad they are taking care of it....

I was just goofin'. That is the next investment for my '03 Cobra. My original needs to be rebuilt again. They are around $2,800 or so.

Poopdawg, I just went through getting a rear end whine fixed that sounded just like your video. I first noticed it on the drive home from the dealership when I bought my 2012 GT.. God what a ty feeling. My car had 3.73s installed from the factory. My 2011 before this had them too and yet I had zero rear end noise issues with that car.

Back to the 2012... It whined if you were even slightly on the throttle at freeway speeds? As soon as you let off it went away. It also had a loud whine that sort of built up and diminished as you accelerated at much higher speeds, around 90mph. The shop at the dealership I bought the car from tried to readjust the rear diff backlash by changing the spacers. They said it was fixed. It wasnt. I brought it back and they refused to work on it again. They also said they couldn't hear it and that it sounded normal. They said the same about the engine ticking too and got annoyed I was being so persistant... As though I should just take their word for it and live with it... Idiots. The adviser said his manager wouldn't approve them working on it again... Because if their work doesn't fix the issue they don't get paid by Ford. That's definitely the way to think when I just bought a $40k car from you...right. They were in touch with Ford engineering when I brought it in who told them it was all normal. I said I believe they misrepresented the issues to the Ford engineers and that I want to pursue having a Ford engineer come out, which the adviser originally said may be necessary, but as I said, they turned me away after the first visit.

I was in touch with Ford customer service and brought my car to another dealership for a second opinion. Right away they said the engine didn't sound right and were able to confirm the rear end whine like in your video. These guys were great, especially with Ford Customer Service overseeing the issue. They fixed the engine tick on the first try by adjusting the cams in some way. They also replaced my driveshaft thinking it might be causing the whine but it didnt fix it... In fact it added decel whine I brought it back and they rebuilt the rear diff with a new carrier and pinion, and all new bearings back there. That fixed the freeway speed annoying whine but not the high speed 90mph whine. Oh well... Good enough.

Seventh- I feel your pain, brother. This is the second new Mustang I've purchased with rear end problems. I should be picking up my car today from getting the transmission replaced after 4 weeks of being at the dealer. I will be bringing it to a different dealer (60 miles away based on two recommendation from fellow Stangnet members)to hopefully have the rear end fixed once again.

It is very sickening to spend the kind of money we do on a brand new car, only to have crap wrong with them that dealers either refuse to fix or tell you it's "normal". If you go on brokenstangs.com there are voice mails where Ford Customer Service Reps are telling people that grinding transmissions are "normal" and other horse! I keep going back, buying Fords because my family always has. Since 2007, I have purchased 5 new Ford vehicles, and only 2 did I have no major mechanical problems with. My next new vehicle with most likely not be a Ford vehicle.

Got my car back today.

Transmission is fixed... Thank God. No more whining and it seems to shift better also, although still a little notchy... Not concerned with that. The service adviser told me the trans needed an output shaft bearing because it was pitted, yet, from the slip of the advisers tongue, admitted the special tools they were waiting on were to disassemble the transmission and that the old trans was still together. So they lied about knowing what was wrong with the trans in the first place to appease me.

As far as the rear end goes, they said they couldn't get it to make any noise, and the Customer Service Rep from Ford asked if I'd take them for a test drive to verify the transmission is fixed and to duplicate the rear end noise.

Well, I did duplicate the rear end noise for them. The Ford Rep and I decided it would be the in my best interest, due to the blatant lies and extreme disorganization shown by this dealer, to bring it to another dealer to have it fixed. So I will be driving my car 60 miles out of the way to have it fixed in New Smyrna Beach based on two recommendations I've had from fellow Stangnet members. As long as it's fixed, I don't care...

When I informed the dealer I was not letting them attempt to fix it, they seemed taken back... But oh well. I can't wait another 4 weeks for the rear end to be fixed. They did give me 4 free 5,000 mile services to ease the pain.... I'll use them on the Fiesta.

So half of this saga is over... I will keep everyone in the loop about the other half as soon as I know...

BTW..... It's great to have my Mustang back....

Well the Mustang has been at the dealer in New Smyrna Beach since Monday. They called and said it was done late last night and I could pick it up in the AM.

well I picked it up this morning only to have the rear end making noises on decel at 40 mph and still a slight whine at 50. I never got up to highway speeds to check and see if that was fixed. I brought it right back and the tech drove with me again and heard the obvious noises.

They are going to try and get a new rear end assembly from ford to fix it once and for all. It's now had 4 sets of gears in it (including the factory set, three replacement sets) and will get atleast one more. Very frustrating to say the least.

I decided to start the Lemon Law process today by sending Ford Motor Company a Motor Vehicle Defect Notification. Once they receive this, it will give them ten days to contact me and set up a 4th and final repair attempt of the rear axle. I don't want a new car, but I'm also not going to keep dealing with a defective car.

Dealer still has my car. Said it will be done mid next week. I misunderstood them saying they ordered a whole rear axle assembly. It is apparently not available as a whole, pre-built, assembly. They had to order everything individually and assembly it there. Housing, Diff, Gears, Axles, bearings and seals.... So there is still a huge margin for human error/noise. I'm hoping for the best.

As far as the Lemon Law process goes, Ford received my letter last Thursday. I expect a phone call from them sometime next week.

Dealer called Monday night to say they just got a whole, assembled rear end off the truck. I dunno how that happened, but I'm ok with that. They told me it would be done probably Thursday... 3 full days for an axle assembly swap... Whatever... At this point I just want it done and done right.

They called today (Wednesday) to say it was ready. So I'll be going to pick it up around 5 PM and I'll report back as to how it turned out. Wish me luck... I hope this crap adventure will be over...

Well I have my car back. No noise from the rear end.

I'm very happy to end this cluster f*ck of an experience. I certainly hope the best for everyone else here that is having these problems or similar. Just keep at it, keep your cool, and get Ford Customer Service involved at the first sign of BS. I was without my car for 1 month and 3 weeks. Insane that it takes that long, but I'm glad that at THIS point everything seems to be ok.

Just got under the car to adjust the exhaust (tips were crooked from them removing the exhaust to do the trans and not centering up the tips) and found my brand new MT-82 leaking trans fluid.

Dealer said it was residual brake fluid from bleeding the clutch. Fluid looked red to me and didn't smell like brake fluid. But I'll give it a week or two and check again.

The car seems to be working fine as of now.

My Ford Customer Service Rep told me I applied for Lemon Law through Florida and I bought the car in Kansas... So I would have to resend paper work in through Kansas... I said screw it. Car works nice now. I never wanted a new car, I want a car that's not broken.

Ford did end up agreeing to send me a check in the amount of two payments, though. So that will be nice...

Also replaced the stock shift knob with a Grabber Pony 3D one with Candy Red numbers/strips... Pretty cool...
