I ordered a set of these MLS head gaskets and I am worried that they might not seal correctly. The direction state that the surfaces finish on the block needs to be 10-30 average roughness. How would I check this, is anyone running these head gaskets. If you are I would appreciate some info. The block was just zero decked and the heads were resurfaced so the both surfaces are true.

The shop that machined your stuff would be able to tell you what the surface roughness is, if they had measured it after resurfacing. Most likely though they didn't unless you asked them to. I believe you need a profilometer to check surface finish and that's not something most shops, etc... would have. The tool and die shop I work for has one, but it's not something you'll find in a garage. Hope that was some help and not useless info. lol

I ordered the cometic mls gaskets and they too told me I had to have the block machined to a specific finish. This scared me so i sold them on the forums and went with the Ford racing graphite gaskets, which have held up well. (Although I didn't get a chance to use my KB blower much due to it failing)

A word about head gaskets such as Cometics/SCE or other MLS solid type. If installed correctly they will not blow. So if you have a blower ENSURE you are running a tune that will NOT detonate . The piston will give up before this style of gaskets.......I know this from experience. Easier and cheaper to replace a HG than a piston.

I've been running the Cometic gaskets for 2 years without any issues.
When I put in my H/C/I and blower, I just cleaned up the surfaces really good, and slapped them on.
I suppose if both the block and head surfaces have had a little work done to them, I would try and find out from the machine shop how smooth the surface is.
