How Long Is A Mustang AOD? I Bought An AOD Out Of An 89 Lincoln Town Car For $75.00. Will That Trans Work In My 91 Mustang Lx 5.0 Without Doing Any Mods?

i don't think so. the tailshaft is longer i think.

that is what is different. i wanna say something like 10 3/4 " but maybe shorter than that.

find out for sure what the length should be, then measure the tailshaft. if it's longer , you need to replace the tailshaft and output shaft.

That Town Car trans is just about for sure 7/8" longer -
again, it's in the tailshaft housing which can be swapped.

Here's a bunch of info that should help you get things
going in the right direction, and make the work easier:

Wrong, you will have to pull the tranny completely apart and replace the tailshaft itself and the tailhousing with one from a mustang since the shaft cannot be removed from the drum by any means other than complete disassembly.

Plus, I believe the linkage is different since the Lincoln is a column shift and the stang is on teh floor. One has a c-looking assembly and the other is a straight one.

....and, it has the low speed governor which will make it shift at about 4200 rpm. Not good...
