Here is what I would do:

1) Boxster S
2) Cobra
3) 05 Mustang GT

If your more into power then reverse 1 and 2.

The boxster will take just about ANY car on a road course even a brand new 911 turbo...

I've seen it with my own eyes at Roebling (in GA) and Sebring Raceway in Florida...

I would take a Boxster S over any Mustang ever made..... the only thing that a Mustang has over the Boxster S is ACCLERATION and thats by a few % in all other areas the Boxster S will have it beat by more then 50%

But it's still seen as a Porsche........... the mustang in the other hand is the poor mans sports car........ making fun of a Porsche is denying your self the truth....... which is that you can't afford one

The boxster is a dog! My S2000 will spank a boxster S in a heart beat. Its a chick car, the porsche look, with no balls.

Count me in as a multiple Mustang owner (1st gen, 3rd gen and 4th gen), and a lifelong Porsche enthusiast. When I was in highschool I was the hottest ticket in town for car detailing. I got all the business from the local Porsche/Mercedes repair shop, and even at 16-17 years old, they trusted me to pick up and drop off the cars (was it my pristine '69 GT350 that I would leave behind in a corner of their shop that gave them confidence? Uh, YEP!). So, as a kid, my favorite cars to drive, by a LONG shot, were Porsche 911's and 930 Turbos. The fun-factor was off the chart compared to anything built in the U.S., and the handling/steering/brakes....made my poor Shelby feel like a pickup truck. I also loved the styling. The same holds true today. Since those days, I kept driving Mustangs, the Shelby got sold when I went to college, after college an '88 GT convert was my gift to myself, and I went on from there. All along I always had in mind treating myself to a Porsche, so last year I bought a super-clean used '96 Carrera 2 as a sunny-day backup to my Lightning. What a blast, what a car, what a marvel of engineering and pure function. When you're driving a 911 through traffic, you feel like a ninja sword amongst a sea of dull butter knives. Everybody else is driving their cars, and you ARE the car when you're in the Porsche. But of course, we're comparing cars that are world's apart in price and in engineering. It's ignorant to call a Porsche a "rip-off" just by looking at specs and price. If you haven't driven it, you don't know your a$$ from a hole in the ground with regard to what the Porsche's really about, and where the value exists. Don't bother rambling on about 1/4 mile times and horsepower, you may as well drop a big block crate motor in a used Chevette if that's all you care about. Everybody likes to talk about speed and power, but EVERYBODY also cares about all of the other intangibles, otherwise, we'd all be driving gutted 79-93 fox bodies with blown stroked crate motors. I think that this also applies to the whole "03-04 Cobra or 05 GT" question. How much are you willing to sacrifice in quality and driving dynamics and engineering, just to go faster stock? And exclusivity?? Buy a car for what it is, not what it represents, try to leave your ego at the door of the dealership. Exclusivity and image are fairly invisible and hollow when you're barnstorming down a back road by yourself, the times where you REALLY get a chance to enjoy your purchase. Limited production is a definite plus, a GREAT plus, but it's a secondary reason to buy, not a primary. I buy the high-end Mustangs because of the hardware, not because of the SVT certificate I get in the mail, or the snakes on the fenders. Admittedly, that's all cool, but it's just icing on what was a substantial cake for the money.

Sure, if someone is giving away Boxster S's, I'd take TWO, because I'd need one of those little buggers for each butt cheek.

But seriously, if price is no object, sure, take the Boxster S. If price is important, then the Mustang has the bang/buck. In my case, with the mortgage and kids and whatnot, that means the Mustang is IN, the Boxster is OUT.

There are a lot of factors, and different factors are playing for everyone.

all the cars you are looking at are in a different class so figure out what you MOST want in a car then the choice will be easy to make. If you want to race the cobra, if you want overall performance with a rag top the boxter, if you want people to stop you on the street, stair at your car at stop lights the 05 Mustang GT is the way to go.

I'm still curious, if he can afford a porsche why wouldn't he be able to afford an 07 cobra? wtf is up with that?

I dont look at a S2000 as a chick car, not anymore then a Boxster, I would rather drive the Honda then a Boxster. Some people like it just cause it has Porsche on it, so that means its fast. But the boxster is not I have driven a couple of them and I have not been impressed.
My S2000 isnt a chick car, its superchargerd gassed with 400hp

I'm right there with you on that line of thinking... if you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly. The Boxster really is kind of the "mini-me" to the Dr. Evil 911. But, I respect them nonetheless because they really are super cars for the niche they occupy. And I've got nothing against S2000's either. To say that the Boxster is "slow" is misleading. No, actually, it's just false. Both cars weigh virtually the same in base form, 2810 for the Porsche, 2807 for the Honda. The current Boxster S has more stock horsepower and torque (258 h.p., 229 tq), and even more important, more USABLE power throughout the range, than the S2000 stock (240 h.p., and measely 161 tq). Even the standard Boxster is only a tad shy on h.p., but has it soundly beat on torque (228 h.p., 192 tq). The new 2005 Boxsters will have 280 h.p. in the S, and 240 h.p. in the standard. The fact that you've blown your little S2000 to 400 h.p. (Hmmmmmmm, 160 h.p. increase? That's alot) is irrelevent. You can modify anything with tools and a checkbook.
