You could of got walked by a Maxima with that ****ty shifting. You totally killed your power curve. You should of downshifted to 3rd at 70-75.

You know you would be right if I had started in fourth at 70-75. Yesterday I thought about it and when I drove home I realized I must have been in fourth gear at about 80-90. I did state that I was not looking to close at the speedometer. Trust when I say I was in the right gear for the speed I was going. This is my third GT and have won more races than lost. By the way who let you on our site? I thought we were all gentleman not cowards who are so insecure to attack a fellow mustang enthusiest. Take your negativity somewhere that you can boost your ego among weak minded individualists.

Also first comparison I've seen. Sorta like "Camaro vs GTO". Just doesn't fit right. My brother has an '05 and just killed me but it was fun anyway...

P.S. notice he even had enough time to take the picture!

Are you sure about the vette being lighter? They are supposed to be pretty heavy.

3300 for the standard and 3100 for the Z06.

If it was a regular auto they have a 2.73 rear end. The perf. package auto is a 3.15 rear and the M6s have 3.42s and the Z06 M6 has a 3.46.

Nice runs!

I believe one of the magazines did it with the viper, corvette and cobra r. Also I believe back in the 60's or so they used to compete (at least the cobra model did). Now though I don't really see them competing but its still fun to do it.

Good write up...........

For the record, I love all performance oriented cars. I just "try" to recognize the relative "rankings" in a non-passionate fashion. I would never "kick a brother" on purpose. To me there can be honor in defeat, it's simply a matter of being a good sport (hopefully a gracious winner and loser).

You know I was just joking Romans.. I like the 04 Cobra you have.. I wish you had of pulled up behind the situation, and set things straight.. LOL!!

Not that you would win but next time make sure you are in 3rd gear at 80 or under.

I agree.. On the freeway, start a race in 3rd, and finish it in 4th.. By the time he could catch you, traffic ahead could cause you to brake before you lose the race..

so let me get this straight, they where in a gear to high and still beat a lighter, faster, more powerful, more aerodynamic car??

I think the Vette was just messing with them. Assuming the Vette was running as it should I guess the driver didn't even bother to shift down from top. If it was an auto with 2.73 rear or an M6 it would have been a taller gear than 5th in the Stang.

Nice run michaelgta , but I don't think your stock Stang is quite a Corvette basher yet.

No, I could not beat a Vette. I know this. It was just to see what would happen. When I had my 2000 GT I pulled next to a Viper on the highway. I reved my engine at him and tried to take off from him. He left me behind like I was driving a Pinto. I enjoyed watching how fast he left me behind. Those cars are incredible! Now, with the Vette he did not beat me that bad. I do not think he was playing with me either. I was just surprised in a way how well my stang kept up with a vehicle almost twice the price.

michaelgta,i don't think you could compare the performance of your stock car outruning another car, 3 lenghts ahead of your oponnent without even pointing out you want to race the other driver. he could've been messing with you, he could've be waiting for you to slow down a little so he could line up besides you.

don't get me wrong, but at highway speed, is really hard to believe a stock mustang gt would walk / keep up with a c5 corvette, especially because the trap speed on both cars. a 98 vette (which i think is the slowest of the ls1 powered vettes in stock trim) would trap at around 105mph with 2.73's, (traction limited), and it doesn't need less than 2's 60' to stop the clock at high 13's in stock trim like the mustang 05 gt does.

the c5 would run better on the freeway, it's lighter than your car, have more power and better aerodynamics.

if you really want to see what would happen , try to line up with the other car and then punch her from there

Even if the LS1 Vette was a "lowly" auto, it would have shot ahead of an '05GT without a problem.

Something's not right with this sotry because the LS1 Trans Am's don't have problems with our '05 GT's, especially on the highway.

You know everyone can have their opinion. I know what happened. He could have been playing with me but, 350 horsepower and a little lighter vehicle is not going to just blow your doors off. It was just a nice story of what I experienced on my way home. If you do not believe it or think I am lying then you are entitled to your opinion. I would not make this up and do not need attention to enjoy myself or gain respect.

I'm with you Mike!! I think you did ok for your first run against a vette.. Next time, you will drop it in 3rd, and run the clock out on him before he can catch you..

Like you said, 350HP against 300HP means that if you get the jump on him in 3rd gear, he would need atleast 450HP to catch back up to you within 1/4 on the freeway.. You then drop it in 4th while he is starting to pull on you, and within 1 mile on the freeway, the race will look evened out because if your lucky, you will run up on traffic..

Guys around here have there views.. Some guys like Mustangs but cower to vettes for some reason.. Some guys around here have SC'd Mustangs that dont worry about stock vettes.. Your in a situation of running stock to stock, in which case had you dropped to 3rd gear, the story would have been more exciting.. So dont worry about the negetive feedback.. You represented to the best of what you thought you had at the time.. Nextime, drop third gear on his azz, and run the track out on him, placing him in a situation where it looks like he almost lost to a 05GT..

I'm not quite old enough to have seen this myself but I understand that in the late 60's, when a shelby arrived at the track, the vette owners all started packing their gear!

Our GT's are better suited to compete with the garden variety WRX (not STI), Supercharged Grand Prix's and most rice.

LS1's in the Vette's and Trans Am's have to much power for our stock cars to contend with. That's why we religiously MOD

You gotta watch those WRX's - they're damn fast. Even the non-STI model is a serious competitor.

Of course, the car is butt-fricking ugly, but it is fast...
