Mustang not muscle?

Although compared to the Camaro in this Top Ten Muscle Cars article, the Mustang just doesn't cut it I guess.

Sounds VERY biased to me , hell the GM cars (GS,GTO,Chevelle) are all the same car! The Mustang started the Pony cars.........

I'm fine w/ the list except that a camaro isn't a muscle car. Neither is a mustang. Both of those are pony cars. Muscle cars are mid sized cars w/ large motors (notice I didn't say big block....the only cars that came w/ big blocks are chebys). On that list, they should have removed the camaro and put in the torino.

A SCJ or a GT500KR is more muscle than pony in my opinion.

it's still technically a pony car. this debate has existed since day one of the muscle car. that said, the larger cube pony cars are still muscle cars in my book. my opinion is that if it has a 350ci or larger engine it's a muscle car. most people consider the nova a muscle car and it's a compact car just like mustang, camaro, cuda, etc.

Personally i think that the big block mustangs and the mid block mustangs were all muscle cars. But thats just one mans opinion. On another note, i have lost a lot of respect for chevy in the past few years. Used to be, you knew it was muscle when it had an ss badge on it, SS 396 camaros, SS 396/454 chevelles, and some pretty bad novas. But any more you can go down to the chevy dealer and get a 4cly cobalt with Super Sport badges all over it. The name lost its meaning when they started pulling that BS Just another opinion

The author of that article is just SLIGHTLY biased. He does mention the Mustang in the paragraphs about the other cars though, but still...

actualy it was possible to order most any six banger car with the SS trim package back in the day. i've seen original 6 cyl SS nova's and even a 67 impala SS with a six popper.

Hu?? I never knew that, I guess you just never see them any more, most people probably have swapped them out over the years. I guess you learn something new every day. My dad failed to mention that little bit of information during our years of car talk.

Yeah, there are 5 different cars in that article, the Camaro, the Fairlane, the Roadrunner/Charger, the Challenger/Barracuda and the GS/Chevelle/442/GTO.

huh? please explain. maybe I'm missing something but I could have swore that the FE block and the 385 series were big blocks and Ford did use them in pretty much anything.

Your right on the money with that statement. Same friggin cars. Who the heck made up this list. So you mean when they feature a Mustang on Muscle Car or Horsepower TV, it's false?

didn't that show Dream Car Garage have a muscle car shootout and they had a BOSS 429 in the line up? guess they were wrong too according to the article. I see early mustangs as more of sport cars but the 69 and 73 I think should be thrown into the mix of muscle cars.

thechnically speaking chevy is the only who has an actual "big block" designation ford uses FE and 385 series, buick and pontiac don't really use different block designs nor does oldsmobile. chrysler uses B and RB designations

I saw that show, If i remember correctly the boss 429 out performed them all.

Let's not forget the '80's cars. My auto V6 Mustang took my roommate's 305 Camaro, the same engine used in some SS Monte's. lol

I disagree. It's the engine that made the car a Muscle car, and all those cars have different engines or engine packages. You couldn't get a 454 in a GS, just like you couldn't get a six pack in a Roadrunner.
Also the Roadrunner was a stripper car, while the Charger was more luxurious.

You all are complaining about an article that measures engines in "litres" and couldn't mention the Dodge Charger without a friggin Dukes of Hazard reference.

Look on the Bright side, the Nova, Rambler, AMX, Super Bee, El Camino, and 63.5 Galaxie guys are all probably as angry with that article as Mustang owners are.

The Camaro and Mustang were Pony cars. A couple models could be considered Muscle cars. So they accept Camaro and exclude Mustang, it's obvious there's some bias. What about Mustang's cousin---> Shelby Cobra 427 s/c? Arguably the baddest muscle car ever built. Oh yes, I said "Muscle Car!"
