Me and my son just purchased a 1990 mustang gt. When we come to a stop the car stalls. Fast or slow stops it just stalls. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do.

See the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems.

The quick and easy way to dump the codes is in there too, and all you need to do it is a paper clip! The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

Could be lots of things, so go through the checklist as suggested. But a good place to start would be to clean your IAC (Idle Air Control) or if you prefer IAB (Idle Air Bypass). The problems occurs when you get a carbon build up inside the device. If the car has a cam in it, then that could complicate things a bit.

Here's a link: Ford Mustang IAC IAB - Solving your idle problems

Vehicle speed sensor might have somthing to do with it also.. What is your idle set at? Sometimes if it is to low it can cause problems.

You are not supposed to use the idle screw to raise the idle.
See the See the "Surging Idle Checklist for the right way to fix idle/stall problems.

It is possible that you have a bad VSS. Without dumping the codes you will never know.
