Me and my father bought a 34 Ford Coupe as few months ago, it's a kit car. It has a 5.0 in it from an 87 Mustang with an automatic transmission, I think they said from a Lincoln. It has no power I'd make a guess around the 200 mark, it only has 8000miles on it since being rebuilt, completly stock except the dome. I want to know what is the best way of getting it up around the 400-450hp range. I was thinking stroker but that's going to be expensive, what about supercharging it?
Could someone give me an idea of a few things I could do and the parts I would need, maybe an estimated price? Maybe some parts to stay away from. I have never done anything with a Ford motor, I've been around the LS1s and LT1s.

Thanks,
Chris

read on here and you should get some Ideas.

Gears will make a difference that you can feel. If it is a Speed density car, then you cant go hog wild on the heads and cam setup.

For carbed or mass air, heads, cam and intake will make a world of difference.

For bang for the buck, have you checked and bumped the timing, made sure that then engine has good compression and that it runs properly first?

But I can't get to the 400-450hp range with cam and heads.... I would need to do internals right? But if I did that I'd be just as well off stroking it up to a 347.

at your avatar.

As for the topic, It would take a serious head cam package. Are you looking to just get that power normally or would you consider doing something unique? A tt setup would be very easy on an open engine bay like that, and you could really make it look nice. That would get you the power no problem. Also, Im guessing nitrous is out of the question?

..o and btw for anything over 450rwhp your going to want a new block. the rule of thumb is that anything over 450rwhp on a stock block is a timebomb, but it has been done many times with various outcomes.... check out www.turbomustangs.com they have a lot of helpful info , also check out the turbo bible while your there that will give you a good idea of what is out there

I really don't want to go turbo or with nitrous I would rather go n/a or superchage it. I want it to last for a while...

AFR heads and an FTI custom cam. Cheap (compared to turbo and SC kits), compact and reliable.

OR

347 stroker with afr 185's and FTI custom cam. Also reliable and compact. That'll net you about 375.
