ive heard that the discharge tube (whatever its called that lets excess water out of the a/c system) can get clogged and cause a musty smell

The evaporator removes a lot of water from the incoming air, so it collects a lot of water and should go outside through a drain tube. But that may be clogged and water is stagnant. This is my guess, since you live in a very humid climate.

You may have some mold or mildew built up in the ducting too....You should run the vent fan a lot (on high) and see if it clears it up. Or try spraying some lysol in the vents.

This w/e was the first time using mine, and it smells funky too. My drain isn't plugged... it spews water right on my h-pipe just fine.

I figure it was the evaporator core as well. Where would be a good place to "inject" some febreeze or lysol into the duct work?

WHere underhood does the air get pulled in from. I would think that if you sprayed lysol there it would get pulled across the heater/evap core and through all the duct work.

Not sure where the outside air comes in... the air recirculation looks like it's directly in front of the fan though. That might be a good place to give it a shot. I would assume there is some kind of filter on it though.

This happens if you dont use it often enough, even if your not using your AC on a warmer day turn it on. Also when ever your using your AC turn your mode to normal vent for about a minute before you shut it off. This will keep it from happening.

I don't use mine much at all.... and when I do, it's usually only on a long trips. I'll do this from now on. Any idea how to get rid of the smell now though?

Mine smells too, I'm looking for the AC evaporator core drain vent but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where exactly I need to look?

Just run it for a while. Mine went away after a little over a week of running it.

And I found some "A/C Freshners" you charge your A/C with it and it has a few different cents. I found it in an old JC Whitney catoloug.
