Well, looks like I've got problems. After going through a light, the cars in front of me stopped short. As did I. However, the person behind me did not. She hit me going probally 20 miles an hour. Which then proceeded to knock me forward into the car in front of me. At first glance, it looked like I had a few small scratches on my front bumper and it was pushed down a little, and the back bumper cover was scratched and torn. It did however take out the Kia that hit me. That car needs hood, bumper, fender, light, turn signal, etc.. I just got off the phone with the body shop that did the resto work on the body and they asked me to go out to the car and see if there were any chips on the body or doors. When I looked, sure enough, there they were. The body shop explained to me that that came from the back of the car flexing up and hitting the doors. It also looks like the door jam gap is off on the passenger side. They told me that the other driver's insurance co will try to total the car over that. That it is considered frame damage. He says that he will get me back the money I put into the paint and top when it was resto'd if totalled tho. I know, but I don't have any yet. Too upset at the moment and it really doesn't look like there is anything wrong. Owell. I guess that's what there is insurance for.

first off, im sorry to hear that. ive been where you are and it sucks.

its definitely going to be totalled, unless you have an apprasial. to insurance companies, our cars arent worth much at all. the beauty is that you can buy it back for a few bucks and use the remaining money to get it back to good. it sounds fixable, so dont freak out yet. also - play hardball with the insurance company if they come back with some low number on what they will pay for your car. threaten a lawyer and have as many receipts as you can along with evidence that cars similar to yours are going for more $$ on the real market than what they are offereing. usually when you threaten a laywer, their tune changes.

The body shop said they will help me get all the money from the ins co. Since the paint/resto work is about 1.5 yrs old and the top is 5 months old, they are supposed to reimburse me for them. Ever deal with Hartford ins? Do they have a reputation for screwing people over?

ouch

Man that sucks, I am very sorry to hear about your situation.

A question for you...do you have agreed value insurance? That is, did you and your insurance rep come to an agreement about the replacement value of your car? If not they will likely just give you whatever NADA says your car is worth, which as we know isn't much.

Keep us posted on what they do for you $ wise.

I tried to get agreed value, but it wasn't available through progressive. I'm not going through my insurance company. She hit me from behind. I'll be presenting their insurance company with reciepts for paint/body work for $3400 and a reciept for a new top for $1000. And then we will fight about what a fox vert that had a clean carfax that everything worked on was worth. If they decide they want to loball me, I'll lawyer up. Seeing as how she did crash into the rear of my car, if they want to play games, i'll look into whiplash, back pain, etc..

I was planning on going to the one they do in Cherry Hill and the one in the Trenton Thunder parking lot. Now it looks like I'm going to the body shop instead. Her insurance company is being very cooperative thank god.

Not much to look at. It has a mangled rear bumper cover. And a dent in the quarter and a few nicks from the body hitting the doors when the frame bent.

Have you shown anyone receipts yet?

Do you live in a state that finds fault? If so, the other driver and insurance company is liable. You are in the driver's seat.

Everyone I talked to at both insurance companies (wreck not my fault) told me the car would be totaled after I gave them the estimate ($3300).

I produced all my receipts with an small excel spreadsheet that showed the total.

The adjuster from the other company cut me a check on the spot. $2900

Was your estimate with OEM or aftermarket parts? This will make a differance.

Do not agree to anything! Show them your receipts and stand your ground. Also, work with the repair shop. Sounds like you know them pretty well.

Hope it works out in your favor.

I faxed over reciepts today. Also classified ads for cars in similar condition. My estimate is with oem parts. I don't know what their appraiser was using. He didn't give me an estimate. I'm getting ready to dig my heels in here and not signing anything untill i know my car is getting fixed the right way.
