Well it finally happened!!! I got a 1st Place finish today at a car show... Entered in "All Years - Domestic - Wild" WOOHOO!!!!

Very, very cool! You entered a broad catagory which I assume you had some pretty stiff competition and nailed a 1st place finish huh? Wow, that goes to show you that Ford again and again has hit a homerun with the '05 Mustang. Congrats.

Congrats!! Nice Stang!!! I almost won an award at the show I went to, but most didn't want to vote on a "New" car. Only the old ones!

Oh well. Congrats again. For you we do the banana dance!!!!

I have an 05 mustang and a 66 mustang. It is much harder to keep the 66 looking new. I understand why car shows prefer to give awards to older cars, especially if they are stock. It's hard to find old, original parts and keep the 40 year or older cars looking like they just came off the assembly line. It's much easier for a new car to look new.
That's no offense to anyone. It's just the truth.

Yeah, i can relate... I had my fair share of "New Car Syndrome"... It is really bad at participant ballot shows... This was was actually objectively judge with a point system... that's really the only way I stand a chance... This coming Sunday Ford show will be participant ballot... but there is a seperate class just for the 2005 Mustangs... So I might have some chance....

No offense... but what if I just go buy the fully restored 40 year old car... Is i really that different than me buying a new car? But I hear what your saying... I hate it when they lump all the cars together... I prefer when they have classes like "2000 or newer" LOL!

Your right.. They never should have lumped the older with the new.. Like scrming said, they should have different car classes based on year..

I restored a 1966 Mustang before, with a 289 Hi-PO, 4SPD, gear drive and ported and polished heads.. My wife still wont let me live it down for selling it.. She always compares all Mustangs sense to that one.. It also had DragLites on it..

I wont shy away from saying that even though Scrming and I are buddies, there is no way in hell he would have placed over that car!! LOL!! Sorry Scrming!

I just wanted to add that what I missed about that car the most was the Gear-Drive.. There is no better sound on earth, than a 289 Motor, shaking the car, with gear drive as loud as a Buzz-Saw crusing through town.. I had police, firemen, old women gving me the thumbs up.... One of my most passionate Mustangs ever... I love the sound of Gear-drive with a passion on the older stangs!

I agree. Classes are better. I used to go to car shows all the time. I have better than 100 trophies in my Mustang room. I'm now more into national shows (Mustang Club of America events) or local cruises.
I just don't get much of a kick anymore spending all day in the sun, spending $15 (or more) for a registration fee and maybe winning a $5 or $10 trophy.
You are also right. Someone can go out and buy a fully restored 40 year old car. Those of us though who have cared and lovingly restored our older Mustangs have a bit of a problem with being judged against brand new vehicles. They just aren't the same and should be in different classes.
I've been in the same classes as pickup trucks and new ones at that for goodness sakes.
