Hello all,

I'm in the process of buying a "used" 2011 Mustang GT. The car's original owner has had the car for 6 months. I checked it out. It has 5k miles on it and looks totally brand new...which it basically is. It looks awesome and I'm totally pumped to buy the car.

I want to run a carfax on it before I hand over the money. I'm also going to take it into the dealer for an inspection (for whatever that is worth). Anything else I should do?

does anyone here have carfax? i was wondering if one of you could run a VIN# for me.

thanks,

Dave

thats how i bought my 1986 gt, it had 8,000 miles on it then, in 1987. i saved around 4 thousand back then, thats kind of what iam waiting for too, people bought them and cant afford them, its nice to order one new and the way you want it, but hang out and buy a nice used one and save some money.

Guys, thanks for your responses--ya I stood to save a lot of money. I think sticker price for the car was $36K. Check this out:

The guy conjoles me to drive out to see his car on a rainy sunday, he lives over 1 hour away from me. I go to see the car. I like the car and we shake on a price: $27,250. Done deal. I'll get him the money on Monday.

Monday--I put together the financing. Half bank half my $$. I spend the day doing that. I talk to the guy selling the car several times over the course of the day. Everything is A-OK.

Later that evening the guy calls me, "Uhhh, I sold the car. Its gone. I sold it to a guy for $28K." !!!! WTF??

Who does $hit like that?

So, long story short I embarked on a mission to get a brand new car. Last weekend I bought a brand new Mustang GT Premium, manual, brembos, 3.55, camera, comfort package, security package. The car is awesome!

So forget that tool. maybe this is the risk you run trying to buy a car off of somebody. I don't know.

Dealing with the dealers wasn't all wine and roses either. But I ended up getting a great deal on one of the few 2011s left with brembos and the optional rear end in the color I wanted (white).

Alls well that ends well!

I got my 2011 GT CS used and when the seller and I agree'd on the deal we put it in writing and I gave him a $100 deposit to hold the car. The sales contract gave me a week to pay the rest of the money and after that he would have been free to sell the car to somebody else. If he tried to pull crap like that on me and sell the car to somebody else before that cutoff date I'd have taken his ass to court for the difference between that car and a new one from a dealership. In the end, I'm extremely pleased I bought used. The car had 8K miles on it and a couple paint scratches but the warranty is fully transferable and it saved me about $4,000 vs buying it from the dealer with x-plan & brochure coupon. Plus if I had gone new I would have had a lot of pressure from my folks to go with the cheaper V6 Premium instead but I got a good enough deal such that my dad can't talk crap about me getting a GT because his new 2010 Prius cost slightly more than my car did. LOL
