Tons of bolt ons on it we did on the 88. Full 2.5" off road H pipe exaust, hooker aerochambers, trick flow long runner intake, edelbrock shorty headers, ac removed, al. driveshaft, tb, cold air on a stock 302.

mine ''67 coupe with '69 308, performer intake and edelbrock carb, cam, but the stock exaust. I think the exaust killed me. I got a set of patriot shorty cermanic coated headers but I dunno what to do with the rest of the system. is there anything that bolts to the shorty/midlengths i got? the flowmaster and maganflow kits are for long tubes.

I think there might be a company that makes somthing to bolt up to shorties, but full lengths would probably help more along with a 2 1/2" exhaust..Put some 3.55;s or 3.80s in your car too.

You were driving the wrong car, but seriously a standard performer intake and ede carb, while good pieces, are not a big step from stock. You did not say which cam you have but if it is the performer plus, I would not expect much more than mid 14's. I think it is just too mild of a combo.

he hasn't done gears and mine use to have just the 2 barrel. There's a LOT of things i would have done different with it, but live and learn is all i can say The cam i think was comp cams the guy recomended to go with the intake.

He's also got a 5 speed. You have a... 3 speed auto? My guess is that you're going to need more than just exhaust to beat him.

ya. i got the 3 speed auto. he has tremec tko 5 speed. I was about to buy a t56 for it before I found the Saleen.

Let's see: 88GT with a 225 horse rated 302, 5 speed trans, and what? 3.25 or so gears? Some MILD bolt on(all that stuff you listed probably added 30 horses) parts, a better suspension, posi traction. That vs a stock 67 Stang with a 4 bbl carb added (the Performer intake added nothing to it, it's an aluminum version of the stock 2bbl intake) on a stock 302, a C-4 trans? And a 2.79 geared pegleg rear? And you REALLY expected to win? Got a lot to learn my son.

but yeah, even with more power it would take more to get it to stick to the ground and move the car forward. We are at a decent disadvantage to the newer guys in weight and suspension technology.

The ratio on his 5 speed means he might as well have had some 4.10s in the back compared to you.

You never stood a chance against that car. I bet it wasn't even close, and if it was, he can't drive. I would assume you're putting 190 to the rear wheels, probably lower. The stock formed 302 just isn't a great performer.

I've got long tubes, and bought the jegs full 2.5'' kit a while back. It was easy, almost fit, and cost next to nothing with the mufflers. I had about 320 in the entire exhaust setup including some long tube Hooker Comps and that was for my 351c.

If you want to spend money on your car, get a 3.55 rear (anything but an open), get some good exhaust and a decent intake. You'll be surprised. After that, a converter, shift kit, and hopefully you already have pertronix or some distributor setup. With that you stand a chance of keeping up. You'll probably need long tubes, some better than stock heads, a bigger cam and a nice HOLLEY to beat him.

Really want a chance? Start with heads and the rear gear ratio. Skip all the crap he added to that 88GT. None of it really does anything to a stock motor. His bottle neck is his heads.
