Spent 12 hours battling 40mph winds, snow, ice and Minneapolis traffic to bring this hidden gem. Sat for last 2 years untouched and purchased out of an estate. One owner car covered in dust etc but 0 rust anywhere. I have every original part, receipt of everything ever done to this car, never saw a winter/snow. Lots of tasteful mods (period correct) and some that will come off for new but we are only 2 days of ownership so for now I'm just going to stare at it all winter and plan. Anyway, I'm from Iowa and will be on here for all the questions and research. Thanks for the add!

Nice find!

Love the period correct rear louvers.
Judging by the number of slats they look to be ford and not aftermarket. Nice!

Dang, I want to take them off too. I’ll see what it looks like detailed up etc. the “Detailer” took a car duster to 4 years of barn dust to it. It’s been to cold in Iowa to paint correct as of yet but I hope to do some work to it this weekend.

Take them off if they don't feel like your thing.

I'll tell ya though... wrap em up in plastic and box them. Store them in a clean, dry place.

They're getting hard to come by.

Nice find and welcome to the group from an ex-Waterholian! Maybe I'll see you around sometime, I still have a lot of family up there. It's been a long minute since I last attended, but I may actually come up for the 4th St Cruise again this year. Seems like a good time to show that one off! Are they still doing a Uni cruise since they've added all of the roundabouts? Haven't heard much about it, but then again I've only been back in Iowa for about 6 months.....

I agree with noobz, I'm restoring and installing a set on my 89, there is special hardware attached to the glass,
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: do not tow the car backwards with the louvers on the car, do not trailer or flatbed backwards either.
They can be removed but the are easily bent.
They look factory.

That was my plan. They are in great shape. Someone will appreciate them.

Oh yes to both! The 4th street cruise is a great place and the UNI cruise last year was huge! Tons of cars and back to the old KMart parking lot. Def a great time and worth the drive!

@General karthief - would he be better off just pulling the back glass as well? I thought the louver attachments were on the glass or at least that is what I thought I read in your build thread.

Yes, the hardware is glued to the back glass, from the pic I'd say it's original to the car.
I wonder if the louvers were factory or dealer installed?
@FoxChasis may know, unless it's proprietary info protected by large dashounds.....scary thought....

Those louvers are not "factory". (That option ended after model year 1983.) Factory-installed louvers mounted to the body, not the glass, and they would not fit when the rear wing spoiler changed from three-piece (1979-84½) to single piece (1984½-93). Louvers were available through the Ford Parts and Accessories catalog, and those mounted to the glass.

Wow, sets the record straight, thanks and I believe I have never seen louvers mounted to the body. Or not paid attention.
Thanks for dashing my thoughts of owning a priceless piece of automotive history......
I'm sure @fratzke will agree they are soooo kool

They are definitely still cool and I am still jealous that you have them @General karthief and @fratzke. Lol

These are the catalog ones….

3-door price is listed as 253.44 and GT price is 247.81 (1991 catalog)

For factory louvers, hinges screwed into the body at the upper corners of the hatchback window trim, and threaded inserts were in the body at the bottom corners of the trim, which accepted thumb screws.

That second pic looks like its the screw hole used by the 1 piece spoiler. That would explain why they were dropped as a factory option.
