Well, this is a far cry from the Merkur but you can't laugh about 43mpg. This baby goes 0-60 in (no joke) 17 seconds (as tested back in the day by Motor Trend). But, it runs like a sewing machine and it only has 161k on it so it should last me another 100k easy which is just what i need. Hey, at least it's not a Cavalier or Neon right?

1989 Ford Festiva 1.3L four speed baby. And for the record my carbon footprint has just shrank by leaps and bounds and i have just earned a ton of Al Gore points.

It needs some wheels or at least hub caps. My DD is quit the oppisite, 13 MPG.

That's a good choice for a DD. Although I can't imagine you taking your stang out then having to jump in that.

Yeah dude like jumping off the riding mower and getting into a time machine :rlaugh:

It's so funny to drive. You really can't drive this car "hard". You can drive stupid and drop the clutch but as far as pushing it performance wise, the difference between part throttle and full throttle is like going from the turtle to the rabbit setting on a riding mower. It just baaarely gets a slight sense of urgency. You learn real fast to be patient and leave early if you have to be on time and get used to the slow lane.

You get my vote for a best DD. You can put all new tires on it for probably under 150 installed, park the thing anywhere and never have to worry about anybody messing with it. If you get a door ding, that just adds character.

Plus, when you are getting on it and you see a cop, there's a sense of relief to realize that you have only gotten up to 40 mph LOL.

I bet i passed 10 cops already...none of them probably realized i was there at all. This thing is below "off the radar".

I'm gonna hit up the JY tomorrow and try to find some 13s for it. My 12 inch tires are so bald that it actually slides around on ramps and tonight i got caught in the rain for the first time and it was a white knuckle ride to say the least. From what i've read you can get 13s for half the price of 12s and that's IF you can find 12 inch tires. People have gone as big as 15s but i don't wanna bother with that.

Well, it needs the driver's side wheel bearings replaced. The inner bearing is pretty much missing. I went to the junkyard today and got some 13's off an Accent with pretty decent tires on them.

I've read that the Aspire suspension can be completely swapped over onto these cars and you pick up better brakes and swaybars. If this thing wasn't meant to be so low buck and cheap i would be all over that. I have a feeling the spindle and everything is screwed so depending on what that'll cost i might be just as well.
