My stang is shifting to early, help needed.

Shift is probably censored because you accidentially left out the letter "F" when typing the title.

The steeper gears are going to make it shift earlier because the make the RPM's climb faster, at lower speeds. The AOD is pressure controlled so as the RPMs climb, the pressure increases and the tranny shifts at the same RPM which now comes at a lower MPH.

If you want more control over your AOD's shifting, you need at least a shift kit but more preferably a valvebody such as Lentech or PA. Lentech offers a VB where you can turn OD on and off with a switch or you could go with a full manual VB where you get rid of the TV Cable but have to make all shifts for the tranny yourself.

A good shift kit is Baumann, runs about 60.00. The VB's are more expensive at between 200 - 400.00.

You also need a higher stall converter to see any performance out of your AOD. A shift kit or VB and a Converter will make a great difference.

Shift it yourself it is the only way to race an AOD! Here is what you do stp by step:
AT the line place the car in 1st, nail it and shift about 400 rpms before your desired shift mark. Then when it shifts in to 2nd wait like 2 seconds and shift it back down in to first again. This puts you now in control of 2nd gear, you are not actually in first gear any more your still in 2nd. Then follow my advice about shifting in to third and keep it to the floor during this entire time!

Note: for the AOD both 1st and 2nd are in your number "1" on your shifter.
