I just had my car built by someone they forgot the size of the cam that was used. Is there any way to detect the size or type of cam without de-installing? Also, I was told I need a custom chip for it. Where do I begin to figure out what kind I need? Thanks for the help!
You can use a dial indicator to determine lift. Tape a washer down on top of the lifter and put the dial indicator on it and rotate the engine and take your readings. Also, if you have access to a cam degree wheel you can determine the timing events which will help determine duration and LSA. As for the chip, most 94-95's tend to have a surge and die syndrome when a cam is added. Most of us cure it by bumping the idle with some sort of tuning devise. You can either get a chip from JMS, or get a tweecer if you have the ability to tune by yourself, or if you are near a reputable shop that can do custom burnt chips on site you could have your car dyno'd and a chip made right there. Thanks Killer. Now I have to locate a shop to help me along and I'll go for it. I'm in Palmdale, Ca. about an hour north of Los Angeles. If you know anyone in my area I'd appreciate it. I'm no mechanic, but I can drive anything, lol.
