Looks like a 2.1 at first glance, probably running a 9# pulley.

Can you see if there's anything stamped on the side of the blower in the area of the bypass elbow (by cylinder #5)? My 1.7L has a "417" stamped there.

In that image on the very left -- almost out of view -- is the stamp I'm talking about.

Looks like a nice setup

That looks like the 2.2L setup from a few years back. Try and find the numbers off of the blower housing (if you're able) and send KB an email.

One of the givaways is that there would be no CARB EO# exemption sticker anywhere on the blower. The smaller kits had them, the 2.2 did not. If there is a sticker, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a smaller kit though. Occationally the stickers would fall into the box at KB leaving the kit purchaser to properly (ahem) 'dispose' of it upon discovery.

That stamp though, is for the manifold kit. The same manifolds were used on different size blowers depending upon the kit that you ordered. The housings were the same size but displacement was different.

ahahha I see . I thought it would be easier to identify the blower just by the pictures but it sounds like it may actually be much harder than I thought, without actually going there to look at it.

Other mods in the engine bay: Bigger TB w/ a cold air kit. Possibly a larger MAF.

I might also be a little concerned with the paint ripple and what appears to be, water stains on the blower. It COULD mean that the blower was overheated at some point and/or the intercooler was leaking or had issues.

--or--

It could be something different alltogether. I would definitely ask the question though.

I was told that the car has around 850 horsepower but I cant see at all how that would be possible.....does that sound right to anyone??

I don't buy 850HP. Perhaps if it were a Termi with a Big Bore. A non-PI with a 2.2L (if that is what it is).... Not likely.

OOO now theres something I did not know. I just assumed it was wet from morning dew or had some water on it, I really thought nothing of it and didnt realize that could be a sign of a problem. Good catch.

as for the 850hp....
I agree, it seems like it would take an extensiveeee amount of work for this car to hit 850hp that this car just does not appear to have done.

Sounds like a worse and worse deal the more people post hahahah Im starting to think I should not waste my time making to the trip for NY to Chicago to check the car out.

Here's a reference from the KB website for a 2.1L Big Bore kit on a 2 valve (96 to 04).

You can see that at 9 and 14 psi., it's a LONG way from 850 HP.

So basically unless this car is running a fully built motor and 20 psi out of the KB 2.2 then what I am looking at is probably more like a 400 hp car?

Can a stock motor handle any more power than that if its not built? Could the motor be built? Is it possible to tell from the pictures if the motor was built at some point?

Sight unseen, my guess would be between 400 and 500 at 14 psi. That's IF all the other necessary upgrades were done to the fuel, induction, and tune. I'm much more familiar with the 5oh systems than I am with the Mod systems.

What I can tell you though, is that the Termi kits made at about the same time mounted ontop of the 4 valve Cobra motor made between 600 and 750 HP and propelled those cars to near godliness. hehe

Even if the supporting mods were done it sounds like this motor would be at the absolute edge of what kind of power it can handle, not to mention the tranny or clutch and so on.

It sure does sound like a cobra with a similar setup would be the way to go instead of buying this car and replacing/upgrading all the driveline components as they break lol

Actually, it's at the front of the blower, just behind the drive cover. You can see the stamping here on mine:

and up close:

The '417' refers to the Autorotor 417 (1.7L) case size. I don't know what the larger ones had (421, 422?). The '660' I assume is a serial number (?)

See if the guy can get a clear pic of it. Maybe it will at least tell you the case size.

And yeah, 850HP? Not with the stock fuel rails it ain't (2nd pic in your 2nd post...)

Oh Hell Yeah... if money is no object, I'd def go with a 03-04 Cobra. A liquid cooled 2.8L Mamoth KB SC and supporting mods. The sound alone would be worth the extra expense! LOL
