Hi ,
having some problems with newly acquired 1 owner 87 stang 2.3 lx.
Since I got her (50k original miles) she has a bad habit of stalling out at idle when warmed up to operating temp. This is accompanied by the engine idle pulsating, which at the low end causes the stall.The problem seems to stop after she has been hot for a while, yet the pulsating is still present at idle to some degree. Tach also hops around, jumps 1000 rpm back and forth, while while driving at steady speed. (Dont know if thats related) Any thoughts on what to try first?

Last question..... there are two vacuum lines (red/green) which go to a valve type plug, with two electrical connectors coming from them. Located near fire wall on passenger side in engine bay. I need to fix those lines as they are broken. What is the name of this part and what does it do?

For the idle mine would do that sometimes before I had my TPS and idle set together. I'm unsure of the electrical stuff though since mine is different...

plastic vacuum lines can be replaced with vacuum line hose from your favorite auto parts store. Just get the size that fits snug on the the part the lines connect to. You will have some connectors that you won't need anymore since the vacuum line goes straight to the part its connecting. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

Its the EGR vacuum switch, It controls the EGR

Tanks to all that responded. I have replaced small hoses to EGR vacuum switch. And started to familiarizing myself with the IAC, MAF, and TPS. Disconnected TPS and cleaned it. I had replaced timing belt, but had to do it without timing gun to set timing 3 months ago. For right now I have lowered the idle to around 650 (it was around a 1000). Then I reset computer. Seems to be running better, though I want to get the timing set properly

Sounds like the TFI module has gone bad. That might be the source of the idle problems. Its located on the bottom of the distributor.
